Solve : Windows thinks a half empty disk drive is full. Is this optimism or stupidity??

Answer»

I reformatted  New Year's day (running XP Home) and my machine was running great until about a month AGO, at which point it began slowing down and acting buggy.  It has gotten progressively worse since then.  Last night, I got an error message stating that the disk (the C: drive, that is) was nearly full, which surprised me, as it is an 80 GB drive, and to the best of my knowledge has only 35 GB or so on it.  I unhid the system folders and checked properties for the "size on disk" of each folder.  They totaled about what I thought, 35 GB.  I RAN cleandisk (or whatever it's called) and freed up a few stray MBs.  Then I compressed the files on the disc, after which the disc's properties claimed it had some 58 GB on it.  The machine is running much better now, but it STILL thinks it has 20 or so GBs more on it (all these numbers are from memory since I'm at "work") then it really does, which not only means I have some 20 GBs I can't use, but perhaps more disturbingly, means either that Bill Gates's idiot SON Windows can't properly read the disc, or the disc is going batty.  Both possibilities trouble me.  Any thoughts? You can look at the space the system restore is using.

Also look at how big your swapfile is....

I'll check System Restore (I'm a little embarrassed that I didn't think of that).  But how do I check the swap file?  Never heard of it...

Solve : Generic Host Process problem?

Answer»

Hi,

I am using WindowsXP Prof with SP2 installed. I have dial-up connection. Whenever I connect to the internet using my Dial-Up, after some time ummm about 1 hour or 30 MIN approximately, a message box comes up saying "Generic Host Process caused an error and needs to close". I am not sure of what exact message it is but I am 100% sure that the basic theme of that message is what I mentioned here. After some time, whether I press OK button or not, my internet disconnect. Although it shows an icon near the windows time but thats was just icon.

I have installed updated and fixes from Microsoft Site but still getting same message.

Solve : Corrupted Windows Application Icon Files?

I have Microsoft Windows XP Professional 2002

this problem now?

Roberta

Try deleting iconcache.db in your profile folder. It is a hidden file so you will have to have hidden files showing. Log off or reboot after deleting. Windows should REBUILD the file.Hello, 2k_dummy,

I have already tried to delete the iconcache.db file

should I do about this other problem?

Roberta

I'm not sure what you mean by "this other problem". Please explain. No, 2k_dummy, I did not successfully delete the file.
To delete the file, I could not find it in my personal

malicious. If I can find it, I shall post, and have time.

Solve : Are Registry Fix D/L's Reliable ? Plus Disk cleanup problem ??

Answer»
I have found one or two registry fix D/L's, are they any good to use, to scan and fix the registry, i.e. , like slow functioning and so on ?

Would you reccomend one, that won't ruin my day?

JpAre going to share with us which ones you're referring to?  For a safe disk cleanup tool and registry cleaner, get CCleaner.  Hey there soybean,

The one I'm looking at is, RegCure, and it was the one I was checking out last night so there one in the same, I THINK I found it on another site previously, but have not run it yet.

There seems to be WARNINGS that one must be precautious with the registry, and some details, are about choosing the unessentials, etc.,
that takes some investigating because I don't recognize most of them, . . I'm just wondering how these miracle fixes work with one push of the button.

I'm sort of stuck out in the weeds and haven't gotten the CHANCE to install my RAM upgrade yet, so installing and using the AOL security measures, like software firwall, virus protection, spyware protection, etc.  will not work until I get this upgrade, it will HAPPEN, hopefully this week.

I tried to do a disk cleanup last night and it started then came to a dead stop last night, I'm gonna give it another try, then use the CCleaner you reccomended, . . thanks,

Jp

Solve : PLEASE HELP! windows xp boot loop and corrupted HD's?

Answer»

sorry it's kind of long.. i took my post from other forums and put them on here so they are really about 5 small posts put together.. please read it i really need some help..

ok so.. it's kind of a long story so i will try and make it short. so about 3 months ago i had this 2002 dell computer. i had for obviously about 5 years and it was a pretty good machine.. didnt give me to many problems until one day the spawn of satan came apon me. my virus protection was wicked OUTDATED and the hardware was fine so i'm assuming its a virus... i call it the windows xp boot loop. it's probably the most frustrating thing i have ever delt with on a computer. the problem was, when i started my computer it would go to the power failure boot menu. no matter which option i chose it would always end with the same result.. the computer would restart and do the exact same thing. it would usualy get to the windows xp logo screen and it would start to load and then shut down and restart again. i did everything there was to do. i posted on this site to try and get some help.. but nothing.. so after about a week a gave up.. i needed a new computer anyways. my aunt had a computer about a month old that she thought was broken.. turns out all it needed was more ram and a replacement power source. so it was pretty good. i also took a few parts from my dell, the ram, video card, the harddrive, and the cd burner. the computer worked great. i thought my the hardrive from the dell was corrupted but i put it in my pc as a slave and there was no problems. i got the nortan virus protection and scaned both HDs for viruses and it took of a few from the old HD.. and all was fine.. it ran smoothly for the last 3 months until last night. i have been just getting in to remote desktop sharing, so i could use my computer at a friends house or from my laptop at school. so since i wasent sure about the kind of protection my RDS program would offer me from intrusion, i desided to download a folder lock. i have used this kind of program in the past so i thought it was ok to DL...definitly wrong.. once i DL it i clicked instalation and it started.. i noticed that it said that only 94% finished DLing and if i tryed to close the DL screen it was say something like "do you really want to exit now? 1 file will not be downloaded.".. this was kind of weird considering the program was already instaling so i just thought it was a glitch.. then my computer kinda froze on me. the instalation screen and DL locked up. i tryed to hit control+alt+delete but it didnt work. task manager didnt come up so i went into run to try and get task manager to open from there but it didnt work. it said something like " cannot open taskmgr. it is being used by another source or program." ok i was a little confused by that.. so i thought it was just a glitch to i shut down my computer and tryed to reboot. i then contemplated taking a hammer to my pc after what i saw. the windows boot loop was back. i couldn't believe it. frusterated after many trys to reboot, i went into the bios menu and reset all the settings, didnt work. i tryed a few other little things.. nothing.. then i started to do pointless things in desperation like replacing the cmos BATTERY. now having no clue what the problem was.. i thought it might be coruption in my HD so i switched my master and slave around so maybe i could do a virus scan or something on the HD.. but that sure as *censored* did nothing.. the same god *censored* thing.

a few days later...

heres an update.. i got the cd-rom to work and i booted up the recovery console. so i type in chkdsk /r and it went through the recovery process.. after about 4 and a half hours later it stoped at 50% and said "volume contains unrecoverable problems"... greatttt... so i tryed all of the other commands chkdsk /p, /f, /x, and then i tryed fix boot... it stopped and said cannot open the partition1.. so for the *censored* of it i restarted my computer and booted with the instalation cd again and this time i went into the windows installation option just to check things out.. it said that there was 2 parts to my harddrive.. one was like 76317mbs or something and the other was only 8mbs..are HD normaly like that? or could that be the cause of all this? since chkdsk wont work, will pc repair and Knoppix still work?
well after i was finished with that i desided to see if i could get anything out of my slave drive.. (both HDs are 80g's and where both effected by the virus) i booted it with the XP installation cd and i went to reinstall windows but i saw another option.. it was something about a repair reinstall.. so i could keep my files and user profiles but reinstall everything else.. i did that and after about an hour i was ABLE to log on..but it didnt really run to well because my slave HD has a sort of symbiotic relationship with my master. (they share a lot of the same files so a lot of things where missing) anyways i thought since i was able to do that with my slave.. why not my master? so i tryed that process with my master but the option of repair reinstalation didnt even come up. like i said before, the first time i entered the installaton menu with my master it was cut into 2 parts the 76317mbs and the 8mbs, well just to see what would happen i click the 76317 one and it said "an error occured while setup was updating partition information on 76317 mb disk 0 at ID 1 on bus 0 on atapi [MBR]... cannot continue..." then my computer restarted and said hard disk fail. so i restarted my computer and booted with the xp insallation disk again to go into the recovery console i type fixmbr \device\harddisk0 and nothing happends.. it justs moves on to the next c>: or w/e.. well i have no idea what to do from here it's getting close to 1 in the morning and i got school in the morning.. i think i am going to run chkskd /r or /f while i am sleeping..(didnt work, hat wa slast night) i keep getting further and further away from booting my computer up witht the corupted HD..it's like everytime i try to do somethign the problem gets worse..

i dont know. if anyone has any other ideas please let me know.
That "hard disk fail" message - there's your clue. ""volume contains unrecoverable problems" - there's another. Sounds like at least one of your disks was gradually getting more and more flaky.

well thats the thing.. i dont even think the HD is even a year old.. but if it is "flaky" is there any way to get my files off?Try copying them in DOS.
Pull the hdd / take it to your aunts & slave it again / copy the data / replace the hdd

Alan <><  a few things...

1. my master drive is the drive with the problem..

2. contrex, how can i get my files off in dos? if that would require a dos boot disk then i have tryed that.. for some reason my computer wont boot from the disk, i have tryed with 2 different ones..i will try another one when i get home today..aslo for some reason i cannot switch the master and slave around... when ever i try to boot it RUNS until i get to the windows logo screen (or sometimes before that) then the screen goes black and i have to restart my computer.

3. alan, i took my aunts whole computer so i can't slave it to hers... but do you know of any other ways to copy the data from my HD to another?

thank you all for your replys Quote from: mikelost5 on April 20, 2007, 10:12:54 AM

for some reason i cannot switch the master and slave around... when ever i try to boot it runs until i get to the windows logo screen (or sometimes before that) then the screen goes black and i have to restart my computer.

I am a bit confused here. You have 2 hard disks on your system. One is master, one is slave, on the same IDE channel, and they both have bootable Windows systems on them? You are normally not allowed more than one at a time. This may well be screwing things up unless you have a dual boot setup. (I suspect you haven't)

Hook up whichever HDD you want to retrieve data of of into a known working machine with a burner .
Set the HDD jumper to slave and check the jumper on the master...don't skip this step as some drives have a "master with slave present" setting and if you just leave it at master you will have problems.
Re-boot the known working machine and then use Windows Explorer to find the files/data you need and use the burner to copy them to CD/DVD...

Unless you are familiar with DOS i wouldn't suggest taking this route.contrex to awnser your question..
i originaly had a dell a while back.. the harddrive got all messed up.. i got a computer form my aunt and used the perfectly fine HD for a master and the other as a slave.. at first i just wanted to get files off but then i just put it in as a slave and all was fine.. now since i cant do anything with my master.. i reinstalled windows on my slave and changed the jumpers on that to master and changed my master to slave. i did this to see if i could get any of my files off of my old master now slave HD.. but no success...

patio.. right now i am not able to access the harddrive  that i want to get data of off in the way that you are talking about however i'm going to FOOL around with it tonight and see if i can do so.. thanks for the relpys..

but i am still looking for awnsers.. if anyone knows of anyway to fix my HD please let me know.. thanks a lot

Solve : Registry Limit, even after running registry cleaner?

Answer»

On startup, I receive the following Error message.

"System has reached the maximum size allowed for the system part of the
registry. Additional storage requests will be ignored."

Having had resgistry issues before, I ran a number o registry cleaners to try and fix the problem. A number of errors were removed. Unfortunately, the error messages persist, and my registry size is still what it was.

My registry size (as found under Windows/System32/Config/Config is 192 megabytes. From what I have heard, this is an inordinate registry size. I did fresh reinstall about two months ago, so I don't think this is a build up problem. In fact, I never had this problem previously, even after RUNNING the computer for one year and a half before reinstalling.

I am really in the dark as to what to do here. I am not sure what information would be relevant in this case, but I will note that I am using an nForce chipset, since I read some posts regarding old nForce sets and registry problems

Thanks in advance,

Jaegan

Final Note: Registry Mechanic reveals 991 errors in my temp files/shortcut area. All of them are under system volume information / restore.  Removing some restore points removed the errors, but the registry size remains the same. Have you ran the 2 below programs?

I know this is an obvious question, but have you disabled windows restore points to check that?Maximum size allowed for the registry? I very much doubt that is a legitimate error..

So I got curious and googled:

Quote
From the Help file on Win2000 Pro:

"To change the maximum size of the computer's registry

Open System in Control Panel.
On the Advanced tab, click Performance Options, and under Virtual memory, click Change.
Under Registry size, type a new registry size in megabytes in the Maximum registry size (MB) box.
Notes

You must be logged on as an administrator to the local computer to change the registry size.
To open a Control Panel item, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click the appropriate icon.
Setting a maximum size for the registry sets an upper limit on how large the area designated for registry data can become. You might need to increase the maximum registry size if the amount of registry data produced by programs exceeds the limit you set under Registry size."

Jaegan never mentioned Win 2K; more likely, he's using Win XP, wouldn't you agree?

In Win XP, there is no "Performance Options" button.  There is a Settings button under Performance.  This leads to another panel named Performance Options.  Clicking the Advanced tab there shows "Change" button which opens a panel where virtual memory can be set.  None of these screens SAY anything about the Registry. No, I would not agree. Considering this is the first GOOGLE search I ran into and it seemed to fit his problem I'd say it's Windows 2000 as I've never heard of this problem happening to Windows XP and more people use XP than 2k so the problem would have come up earlier on if it were an XP problem.

Logic demands, truly. I suppose I could have saved everyone some grief by stating my OS in the original post.

I am indeed running Windows XP. I have already disabled Windows Restore Points, which is just as well because when I tried restoring to previous states to fix the problem the restores failed.I think you should download NTRegOpt and run it.

Solve : hard drive disk light?

Answer»

Hello! I recently noticed that my hard drive activity light has been staying on all the time, not as bright as when actually using a program but STILL it's on.Is this normal? Welcome myhigh, To answer your question we are going to have to know more about the hard drive. Such as what hard drive are you using (what model)
Unless your computer is running slower than USUAL or you can't access certain things on your computer, I wouldn't worry about it now. What OS is this?
How LONG has this been happening?
Did you make any changes prior to it?
What protection do you have?
Does the computer make any noise when this is happening?

We don't have much to work with at the moment.  One possibility I can offer is that maybe your computer is auto-defragging, which SOMETIMES happens when a computer is left idle for awhile.  Does this happen at any specific time, or is it constant? The operating system is XP home edition media.I'm not sure how long this has been going on as this is a newly loaded system.I have AVG virus protection on it.NO. the computer is not making any noises when this is happening. The hard drive is a SATA western digital caviar 160 GB .The motherboard model is ASROCK DUAL VSTA.I recently added alcohol 120% and it did say something about KERNEL debuggers as i was installing it...When was the last time you updated AVG and performed a scan?

Unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with Alcohol, so I'm not sure what kinds of changes it makes to your computer.  You could try uninstalling it to see if that makes a difference (you can always reinstall it), but I don't know if that'll change anything.

Check your Task Manager (Ctrl + Alt + Del) and click on the Processes tab.  Is there anything with an abnormally high Mem Usage?  Do you have dfrgntfs.exe running by any chance?

Solve : PC crashing is getting old, hope to have a solution soon.?

Answer»

Again we see how posting ALL of the information EARLY on can be helpful for a quick resolution, if that is what a poster REALLY wants. As I said in my post I was just recently fiddling about with the card, this is a recent thing. The card has never been overclocked I used that as an exmaple to better explain what I think is going on. I'm posting information as I find out, sort of an update of events in hopes that it narrows things down.

I now have a better clue of what is going on though, thanks to that, and a new discovery. While trying to reset from a crash that happened moments before the PC, instead of restarting, spun up and the monitor regained signal. I was greeted with beautiful 16bit color and garbled graphics and a message that said, I BELIEVE, that the drivers of the card had failed. I couldn't really make anything out and it wasn't like I had much TIME to work it all out SINCE the PC shut it self down while I was trying to read.

I'll try updating drivers back up again, but in my attempts to end the reign of crashing I had stepped back once already. I don't think stepping back further would help.Well, I found the cause myself. The nv4_disp driver is the culprit. So I'm trying out some fixes I found on the net. It's been causing others lots of grief, though generally it gives them the BSoD. One of the fixes is bound to solve the issue. Thanks for the help.

Solve : Difficult problem to explain?

Answer»

Hello all.  I ran into a slight glitch the other day and wanted to SEE if ANYONE else has had a similar experiene and if there are any suggestions for a fix.

My computer is a Dell XPS desktop system.  The other night I disconnected the monitor from the new computer and connected it to my old machine to download some files.  When I reconnected the monitor to the new computer everything seemed fine until the computer WENT into stand-by.
When I bring the computer out of stand-by is when the problem OCCURS.  When it comes out of stand by whenever you click on the start menu it flashes once very fast and disappears, you cannot get it to stay open even using the windows key on the keyboard.  When you left click on an icon it will open the properties menu for the icon.  The problem resolves itself if you restart until the computer goes into stand-by again then the same thing happens.  Anyone seen this or have any IDEAS?

Thanks in advance!
-EricSorry, I'm running Window's XPDon't use Stand-by, it wastes energy and is a completely irrelevant feature. So should I just be shutting down when not on the machine?  Any ideas as to what can be causing the other issue

Solve : .htm and .html icons broken & missing windows font?

Answer»

Hello!

I have two small and annoying problems.

1) I do not know why but icons for .htm and .html files do not display properly. They have been REPLACED with the default windows icon for a .exe file. If I go to "File Types" in Folder Options and click on "Advanced" for the .htm or .html file type it shows the correct icon and lets me change it. Still though, in Explorer it is always shown as the default .exe icon. Any ideas? I can't seem to find any information on this other than "Call Microsoft" which costs money.

2) I deleted the Wingdings font because I have never used it. Afterwards I read that it should not be deleted. Is there any way I can get that back without having the Windows XP CD? I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 and my "restore cd" is actually a hidden partition accessible only through the BIOS. There's no option to browse the contents but only reformat my hard drive to restore everything. All I want is the simple windows default fonts for download but those seem to be impossible to find. I guess if all else fails I will have to find a different computer to copy them from.

Thanks for any help!

PS. I'm using Windows XP Media Center Edition with SP2.1. It would seem that all is fine except that the shortcuts on your desktop have broken links and are pointing SOMEWHERE and the files have been moved or deleted. Right click the icons on the desktop and choose properties. Click the find target button and i presume it cannot locate the files. Either over-key the correct path into the "target" text box or delete the shortcuts and go to the files and right click them and "send to" "desktop create shortcut" once again.

2. I have uploaded Wingding font from my xp machine, grab it here http://www.moktar.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/wingding.ttf and make sure it goes into C:\windows\fonts folder Quote from: Brummie on April 19, 2007, 04:15:29 AM

Either over-key the correct path into the "target" text box or delete the shortcuts and go to the files and right click them and "send to" "desktop create shortcut" once again.

Unfortunately these are not shortcuts. They are actual .htm files located all over my computer. I have my website stored locally and every .htm and .html file has this icon error.Do the following ignoring the "";
Click start and choose "Run"...type in "notepad"
Type the Word Hello in notepad and click File...save as.
At the top click the drag down box and select desktop. Overkey the FILENAME from *.txt to "Hello.html" and click the save button and close notepad.
On your desktop double-click the new file called Hello.html, if its not called hello.html, right click it and rename it so it does.

Does it fail to open up internet explorer and say hello on the page? Or is this problem merely the icon only and the file association WORKS fine?Scan for viruses and spyware.

Open Explorer ( not IE )...go to tools/folder options and select file types.

Scroll down til you see the HTML listing and select what program you want to open it with...click apply and that should do it.

For issue #2 you will probably NEED an official XP CD. Removing system fonts can cause all kinds of havoc.

The Mothership's site has a listing for fonts neccessary for the system to operate properly. Why wingdings is one of these i have no earthly idea...

Solve : i need help with sound please?

Answer»

i used to be able to record video and sound with hypercam but i had to reformat my computer now all i can record is video i hear sound but cant record it ive tryed windows media encoder and a bunch of other sound recorders and still nothing any solutions

btw im on a laptop with Win xp and Conexant AMC Audio
Do you have the latest drivers for your Hypercam and audio card?
What's the model of your Hypercam?  And your computer?
Have you tried recording with a standard mic?Is the microphone selected as a recording device? hypercam is 2.11 and my sound is up to date i think, i keep my windows uptodate  and their are never hardware up dates for it,    no program will record sound and nothing is muted That didn't answer my question, though. Are you CERTAIN the microphone is ticked when you go to configuration menu -> sounds and  audio devices -> audio tab -> recording of sound section-> volume ?
That explains, your microphone isn't even detected. Did you install the correct drivers?

To be on the safe side go to Options -> settings and make sure it isn't untagged. like that

still nothing recordsIt's odd how it wasn't there in the first place.. Like I asked before, did you install the proper drivers? Is this a webcam, videocamera or a photocamera? Is the microphone built-in? yea once a month i reformat and install fresh from the  install CDS and this is the first time this has happend
you think if i deleat my sound settings in device manager and restart it might redo them

i might have removed the mic input and output messing around with it If you reformat your HDDs on a monthly basis you should consider looking into NORTON Ghost or Acronis True Image.. Saves a lot of time and trouble. Quote from: JohnnyS on April 18, 2007, 08:50:44 PM

Windows doesn't notify you of new drivers.  At least, it's never notified me of any.  For your sound driver, you'll need to check your computer manufacturer's site.

This Hypercam you're using...is it the HyperCam software?  If so, you can update to a newer version or check out the FAQ, but I don't think it's PART of the problem.oh im on a laptop i have never used the mic port before hypercam uses the the audio playing from the sorce file whether it be wmp of winamp or the web Wait, it's a program that records sound? So you're not using your mike to record sound? Quote from: CBMatt on April 18, 2007, 09:11:16 PM

I have a 3 year old hewlett packard pc. it came with windows 98. I installed XP now it takes for ever to load once I turn it on. someone said I dont have enough memory, should I take XP off and re install 98 so it will run faster.  ThanksFirst give some computer specifications. COL.  Oh, really now?  Nonsense.  Let's get the facts on his present hardware and see where he stands.  The solution may be as simple as adding more RAM.  And, he may get along fine then.

However, john49, I'm wondering how old that computer really is.  You SAY about 3 years, yet it came with Win 98.  Was it new then? Quote from: Linux711 on April 16, 2007, 07:47:07 PM

I tend to agree with him. Saves a lot of trouble with hardware incomparability and if the person can't afford it he/she will let you know and then you can start looking for alternatives.. Hi again, Im not sure what info you need, but  its a Pavilion 8660C,  the physical memory says 126.48MB, with available memory 12.79MB,  Virtual mem 2.00GB, with availble 1.96GB,      Im not sure of the year, it was given to me by my parents who never used it.....anything else, let me know, thanks for all helpXP will never run well on that small amount of memory. If you don't WANT to upgrade that then Windows 98 is the best choice without spending any cash. Thanks for the info.....................its just a spare computer, mainly just used for surfing the web..........I dont want to sink alot of money into it..............do i just un install XP and 98 will automaticaly keep running or do I have to re install 98, I never un installed 98 when I installed Xp earlier..................thanksWhat kind of processor does it come with? X86 Family 6 model 8 stepping 1 genuineinel 535mhzAssuming the HDD is larger than 3GB your processor should be adequate to run Windows XP, adding 128MB RAM (Or more) will make the machine capable of running Windows XP for most things but multimedia applications. (Not even flash movies). It won't be very suitable for MULTI tasking either but the added security and compatability compared to Pre-Windows XP OS' is worth it alone..HDD is 19.0 GB.....................i did more clicking in the system page and found on another screen  that the processor is a Intel Pentium lll.....128 MB of ram, it doesnt move too slowly once the internet is LOGGED on, but it takes awhile to get loaded after clicking the internet icon to launch it.................thanks for all help I will check into adding more RAM

Solve : Computer will not start on Normal mode!?

Before you go any further think about the consequences if, when you're trying to fix the problem, you lose all of your critical DATA files.

My two cents worth - backup and check the backup files before doing much more even if you go to the trouble of installing the hdd on another pc to backup your files.   There ain't anything worse than eventually repairing an operating system but losing critical data.

Good luck.

Okay. DONE. But i would like to reinstall as last resort...
What next?
Thanks.Bump...
Thanks! So did you backup ALL of your data files as SUGGESTED?Yes, I backed up my C drive. The Windows XP Recovery CD does not work on the laptop. I just opened it and when I try to load it-it says the software doesn't support it. So I cannot repair or even reinstall if I wanted to.

Solve : Drive Stuck in Read Only?

Answer»

Here's my story:
My old hard drive died, gone, so, I got a new one. Now, I had a second hard drive (for storage) which didn't break (because it was only like a month or so old). So, I left that secondary hard drive in the computer, with the new one as the master.

So, now I have this weird problem. That secondary hard drive won't let me write to it. I can read from it fine, but it never lets me write to it. I tried setting the PERMISSIONS on the highest LEVEL folders on the drive to apply the settings downward, and it appears to be setting the attributes properly, but it still won't let me write.

I have no idea what's going on here. Anyone have an idea as to what's up?What OS is INSTALLED on the 'storage' HDD? Did you reformat it before using it? There is no OS on the storage HDD, it is just one big NTFS partition of pictures, documents, and stuff. I didn't reformat it before using it.

I just realized something though. The problem is just with one of the high level folders. Now, that particular folder was CREATED with BARTPE when I was backing up the dying hard drive. I suppose that's the problem, but how do I fix that?

Thank you for replying.  What if you copy all the files to the first HDD, reformat the second and then copy 'm back?

This is the first time I heard of BartPE so I can't say anything about that. I suppose I could try that.

BartPE is a bootCD utility that lets you do  basic things like file management and run checkdisk.

Thanks for the help!

Solve : Windows 3.1 not starting?

Answer»

I am trying to get an old Windows 3.1 SYSTEM w/ Dos 6.22 running again.

The hard drive has an important machine operating program on it (no BACKUP available).

The drive, MEMORY, and CPU test OK.

The computer was HIT w/ brownout and power surges causing the config, dos, and possibly,  Windows file to become corrupt.

I have fixed the config and dos files(reload DOS 6.22), but the system hangs when GOING to start windows.
Autoexec.bat is OK.

Can I reload Windows without damaging the important machine operating program?

I will be working on the system for a few days.
I have ordered vintage utility software WinProbe 4 and Norton V2.0

I only have a 3.5 floppy and a LPT1 port available

Any ideas will be helpful

Yes, you can, but you will probably have to work on recreating functional program groups, etc. I would back up win.ini and system.ini in the windows directory first to a floppy.  Worth a try before you re-install...

Solve : lost settings after applications close?

Answer»

I've got DellOptiplex GX270 that doesn't keep software settings.  In particular a piece of software called PSi Audio File converter that needs a network drive mapped and certain conversion settings to work PROPERLY.  I can map the drive, set the audio parameters and use the program however if I close the program, the next time I open it, all of the settings revert back to the way they were when the program was first installed.  It's not the software because I'm having similar issues with other pieces of software like the ASI SOUND Card virtual mixer software.  Thanks in advace for any suggestions you might have.So it happens to two pieces of software? Doesn't sound like a computer problem. what does it sound like?  I can save a CONFIG file with all of the correct settings and after I reapply the settings are wrong.  I also swapped out sound cards with the same problem replicated.Well, there is nothing specific to Windows that makes it forget a programs settings unless it can not write to the registry or the program or user do not have full administrative rights. Does any of this apply to you? the system is used as a workstation that is always logged on.  I'm pretty sure the administrator has not limited the login's rights or permissions.  He's not a very detail orientated guy.

How would I check on these three possible senarios?COULD it be Windows dropping the mapped drive SETTING ? ?

If other users on the workstation log that drive are you bumped off ? ?

Just grasping at straws here...yes, the PSi Audio File Converter software needs network drive file folder settings that disappear after you close the application. Why not drop a line to PSi describing the issue...perhaps they have released a patch that corrects this.because if it was PSi's problem,  I would be seeing the same problems on the other workstations wouldn't I?

Solve : accessing files on an old hdd?

Answer»

Last winter my power SOURCE got fried in a wind storm so I decided to buy a new COMPUTER and just install my old hdd into the new one so I can have two. Problem is that files on my old hdd are password protected and I have no idea how to disable it. I have windows xp on both hdds. Is there a way I can quit one, start the other and disable it?? any help would be appreciated, my wife is freakin out over our wedding pix saved on there. thanksFrom what I have GATHERED:
You want to GET your old files
But you are unable to because of the Windows XP protection

You need to use the old HDD to go in, log into the account, and put all the files you want onto the C:\ drive in their own folder.
(Copy the documents folder to the C:\ drive)
Then they will no longer be user protected when you try to use the new drive.

Is this what you meant? guess I should have said that the first time. thats exactly what I need to do. then I can clear the drive and use it just for storage.Try This

Solve : Pc won't load login screen?

Answer»

Afternoon All!

I have an EMachine 270. I turned it off one night last week by the power switch and it hasn't booted up fully since. For a few weeks proir to this problem i occasionaly got the error "no operating system found" but a quick restart resolved this. The XP Logo loads and the cursor appears with the hour glass but then the screen remains black and the login menu fails to appear. I can tap shift 5 times and the "sticky keys" screen pops up so i would imagine that eliminates any problem with XP? I don't have the original reboot disk and emachines no longer stock my version. They reccommended buying Windows XP but i can't see that helping.

Thanks for your TIME folks and all SUGGESTIONS are welcomed  Quote

I have an EMachine 270. I turned it off one night last week by the power switch and it hasn't booted up fully since.

The power switch on the front of the PC, the power switch on the back of the PC or the power switch on the power extension cord?

The latter both are very bad means of POWERING down the PC, even when it has already been turned off.

Even so; press F8 before Windows loads and choose last known good configuration. On the front. I can't get that screen up on demand. It appeared once by luck and i did just as you said but to no avail unfortunatley.Did you power down the PC constantly by pressing and holding the button or just by pressing it once?

What kind of Internet security is installed? I have no internet security installed. I don't know if it's the same for all E Machines but the power button on mine is useless. Sometimes it works at a simple press, other times it has to be held in and more often than not it just won't work at all. That is not quite how you are supposed to use the power button, the proper procedure would be:

  • To turn the PC on once it has been powered down by pressing it once
  • To turn the PC off when you are in windows by pressing it once
  • To turn it off in case of distress by pressing it for approximately 5-10 seconds.

If it doesn't work all of the time, either you're not using it properly or you're too impatient.
However, certain settings could cause it to function differently..

But that is not of relevance a the moment;

Do you have a Windows XP CD? I was hoping you wouldn't ask that. The answer is yes, but where? I honestly don't know! I've tore the house apart looking for it and all i have is disc 2 of 2. Tried contacting the manufacturer and they don't stock the particular reboot disc i need.Sounds like a failing power supply unit (PSU) in that computer might be the cause of this problem.  If so, you'll need to replace the PSU.  Quote from: Magin85 on April 18, 2007, 08:47:09 AM

Correct me: You have trouble shutting down the PC when using the power button, you do not have trouble powering it on.

As for the CD being lost, can't you tell them you simply lost both CD's? It seems a bit strange they will only supply the second CD. What is on this second CD?

Solve : Accidently deleted user account, how to get back the files, pls??

Answer»

My friend accidently deleted his user account in Windows XP Home.
Now he is crying for his important files.
System restore POINT is not created when I checked for him.

Now there are still two user accounts  guest and administrator.
Before he delete, windows automatically LOG in with his account.

How can I open back windows with his user account or how can I get back
his files please.

RAM 700MB, 40G, MSI mainboard.
You can't.

Unless he stored his files in a place on the hard drive like a temp folder or another folder like that they are gone.

When you delete the account it clears the regisrty of the pointers to the LOCATIONS for his stuff like My Documents. This opens the space on the hard drive to be used by other users and programs.

You may have a small CHANCE trying a data restore program. Something like this...

http://www.data-recovery-software.net/

What files do you mean?
Try Administrator login. You should have access to all of the surviving files.Maybe WORTH a TryFiles here I mean all that he has in his user account.

Any other hope please, to get back all his account or all files?

Hopefully waiting for your help everybody , thanks

went to cmos and in setting i changes it to read cdrom,c,a
What i want to do is just wipe it all out and start over but it wont let me go to a c>
Then you need a bootable diskette. Quote from: feathers2069 on April 17, 2007, 08:59:09 AM
i put it in another  computer and got everything in it but when I boot it up it keeps rebooting.

Maybe the hardware issues should be addressed first. Test the RAM and test the hard drive.

Solve : Spam-Junk email?

Answer»

I only have AVG7.5. Just ihstalled it.Seems to be working.
Other problem is JUNK e=mail. Last night I got 203 mail. Don't know from who.
Deleted them all.
ThanksThe best solution to spam is opening an account at Gmail.com.

There are some other solutions Mozilla Thunderbird is an E-mail client that comes with a spam filter or you can look at Mailwasher which I've NEVER used, but it looks reliable. Also, see whether your ISP offers any spam blocking features that you are not yet aware of.  I use Earthlink and their spamBlocker; I have it set at the highest level which only allows messages from senders in my online (Earthlink) address book to hit the Inbox.I notified my ISP. I'm using there spam blocker.
Only with the phase (SPAMTAGPTD),attach to it.
Now the email come without the phase, so they get thru. You lost me.  You say "the phase (SPAMTAGPTD),attach to it" but then you say "the email come without the phase, so they get thru."

So, is their spam blocker making any difference or not?  Is it stopping any mail from coming through?

I guess EarthLink really does it best.  Here's an IMAGE of my EarthLink WebMail panel: >here<

Do you have an online address book, as I do?  If not, then how is your ISP's spam blocker supposed to STOP spam?  By some filtering?  Can you see evidence that it's working? Quote from: john god on April 14, 2007, 03:33:50 PM

Is that Earthlink a free email SERVICE? Doesnt look like it from what I can tell....No, Earthlink isn't free.  Earthlink is an Internet Service Provider, covering many states in the U.S.  That's why I said in my first post in this thread, "see whether your ISP offers any spam blocking features that you are not yet aware of."The only evidence I can see is the deleted box.
The e-mail that have (SPAMTAGPTD),are in the deleted box
The other junk mail are in my in box.
No I don't have a online address book.
Only thru the ISP.
I will contact my ISP again to see why some get thru and other don't.

Solve : lost desktop access to windows 98?

Answer»

Hi there,

Wondering if anyone knows how to access the files that were kept on my desktop -baby pics :-( . they were hidden after my computer  froze from a malicious program that was run on it. I was able to reinstall win 98 SE, but cannot seem to be able to access the pictures.

Any HELP would be appreciated.

thanksIf you did a re-install any data that was not backed up is probably GONE...if you formatted it when you reinstalled it their gone , but if you dident.. even if they got deleted somehow you can get them back , FIRST with the new copy of windows, you have a different desktop.. so search for your old one in your old windows folder.. if you installed it right over top, you have to use an undelete program..
i use this one myself http://www.download.com/Undelete-Plus/3000-2084_4-10656411.html?tag=lst-0-1Most LIKELY overwritten & gone but try PC Inspector which helped me recover some pictures.. Ofcourse, I immediatly NOTICED they were gone and didn't attempt to write anything else to the HDD....

Solve : massive problem with device manager and entire audio configuration?

Answer»

i let someone play with my computer, an they uninstaleld a sound device or somethign else i dont KNOW about. when i went to reinstall it in device manager, i realized that the menu for device manager was completely blank. there were no TOPICS, no options, no files, nothing. i dont know where to go from here. help?I'm not convinced you really know what Device Manager is.  How about telling us exactly how to open Device Manager as a way of verifying you know what it is? Much more info on your MACHINE and OS and someone will be along shortly...i have xp from 2003, and i think someone deleted the audio driver. Is this what you did: Setting the plug and play BIOS OPTION (PNP OS) in CMOS Setup?  And, you're saying not having the plug and play BIOS option enabled in CMOS Setup causes Device Manager to be completely blank?    See belowwhen plug and play was disabled, i could not VIEW any items under device manager.  i tinkered with it for about 3 hours, but finally my sound is working again. thanksIt is best not to monkey around with BIOS settings unless you know what they are and what changes can cause. Lesson learned? That's the best way to learn about these stupid computers.  And hopefully a lesson is learned.

Solve : Rebooting!!!!?

Answer»

My laptop FROZE so I shut it down by holding the power button, but not it won't start.  It reboots itself and then shuts down repeatedly.  What did I do wrong and how can I fixed it?It sounds like either your charger or battery is bad.  Is this happening while it is plugged in to the charger?  If so, it is probably the charger.  If not, probably the battery.

Hoop2077Oh shoot...  I missed the part about it freezing.  Please disregard my last post.

Sorry,
Hoop2077This is what the error says:

A problem has been detected and windows have been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME

If this is the first time you’ve seen this error screen restart your computer.  If the screen appears again, follow these steps:

If problems continue, disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software.  Disable BIOS memory such as caching or shadowing.  Checked to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed.  If this a new installation, ASK your hardware or software manufacturer for any window updates you MIGHT need.

If you need to use safe MODE to remove or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup Options, and then select Safe Mode.

Technical Information:
*** STOP: 0x000000ED (0x84F919A0, 0xC0000015, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I tried pressing F8 and clicking on the safe mode, but it does nothing.
Specifics on the hardware, age, etc. could be helpful, don't you think?

You need to start by seeing if the hard drive is recognized correctly in the BIOS and running thefree diagnostics from the appropriate hard drive maker's site. If you don't know use SeaTools at www.seagate.comWhat kind of surface is the laptop placed on and can you hear the fan spanning? UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME seems to be an issue with the Hard Disk Drive.
Run a Test on the HDD in BIos ( If available ) - find out Results.
Reseat HDD and Try to boot  - find out Results
If possible, insert another HDD into this computer or visa versa - Find out Results...

Let me know what happens then...This, of course, was previously suggested. We are waiting for the original poster to return.Think about it - is your backup up-to-date or do you have critical files on the hdd which might be failing?   The most important thing on your pc is your IRREPLACEABLE files - should you get into file recovery mode before attempting to resuscitate the drive?

See here..

Good luck

Solve : winlogin.exe error message?

Answer»

I get the following error message when I boot up my daughter's computer: "Could not load or run C:\Windows\system32\winlogin.exe.  Make sure the file exists on your computer or remove the reference to it in the registry."  I did a folder and file SEARCH, and confirmed that winlogin.exe is in the system32 folder.  I am RUNNING WinXP Home SP2 with all updates.  I am certain this problem is a result of my attempt to remove references to mirc, and IRC program which my grandson probably installed in error, which caused continuous windows explorer windows to pop up at logon.  The IRC icon was hidden on the system tray, and had no Uninstall routine.  I was unable to install from the Control Panel because it was running, and I when I attempted to EXIT the program from the hidden icon in the system tray, it would trigger numerous windows explorer windows.  I removed references to mirc and irc in the registry, but still could not uninstall the program.  Finally, I booted into Safe Mode and successfully removed the IRC program (which I should have done in the first place).  Now my dilema is how can I resolve the error message above.  I appreciate any help you can give me.Hey there!

there are a lot of commands U could use in Command prompt however they are a pain.

to make it simple boot into OS disk and perform OS REPAIR. Im sure it will fix the issue. If you are able to boot into safemode go to Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter...let it run til it finishes and re-boot.

Solve : multiple AOL icons in systray...confusing...please help?

Answer»

recently aol icons have begun filling up my systray, about every five or ten minutes anouther icon appears. this is extremely frustrating any help would be niceHints about your operating system, spyware/virus scanners and a lot more would be helpful. See below. Not much info to work on here...heres some more information:

recently AOL icons keep appearing in my windows xp HOME edition systray. about every 5 or 10 minutes anouther aol icon will appear. when i hover over it with my pointer, it reads: "AOL connection available". Its normal for me to have my usual one AOL icon in the systray, but if i leave the computer on for a few hours and come back, the enitire task bar is filled up with at least 50 aol icons. If I slide my pointer across the taskbar, they will disapeer, but they will keep appearing after a time.
I have tryed reinstalling AOl, but the problem keeps occuring. this is extremely confusing, any help would be nice.

(and HIDING inactive icons on the taskbar properties doesn't help.) Quote from: GX1_Man on April 11, 2007, 05:10:59 PM

Hints about your operating system, spyware/virus scanners and a lot more would be helpful. See below.
When was the last time you did a virus scan?
How long have you had this problem?
Can you think of any changes you made prior this problem?I have been doing virus, spyware, adware scans constantly, no threats have been detected. I have had this problem for about a week. I have made no major changes to my computer or INSTALLED any new programs prior to this happening.Have you tried using System Restore and rolling back to a time before this problem started?

Also...exactly which protection programs do you have?  Are all of the definitions up-to-date and are you scanning in Safe Mode?  And make sure you're not scanning with all of these programs at once.all my virus scan/ spyware programs are on AOL secuity center. But, I will try the system restore idea.

what are the advantages of scanning in safe mode?I would suggest getting AVG Anti-Spyware (it's free), updating it, and running a full scan in Safe Mode.  When in Safe Mode, malware (viruses, spyware, adware, etc.) isn't actively running because your computer is only using the essentials.  This makes malware easier to detect and clean.i tryed the system restore option and it didnt solve my problem, after many attempts at going back a week, 2 weeks, and eventually 3 months, the problem still persisted. AOL icons continued to fill up my systray. I have run virus scans in  safe mode, nothing turns up.
It may be a PORBLEM with my AOL settings but I doubt it.Have you double-checked your settings, just for the heck of it?
Also, which version are you using and have you tried contacting AOL about your problem?

If you are using 9.0, perhaps you can try the Quick Restore.  I haven't had any need to do this myself, so I don't know if you'll need to back up your e-mail, but I would do so just to be on the safe side.

Solve : Formatting Issue with Windows XP Home - HELP!?

Answer»

Hi there,

I have a HP Pavillion media centre PC with a 3.0 ghz processor, 512 Ram, 200 gig hard drive running Windows XP home edition.

Ok, so i put in the original cd for Windows XP and formatted the C: drive which is the main drive with XP on it. I then proceeded to install XP again but after it finished it looks like a lot of the drivers were missing. For example i dont seem to have any network connections (not even the my local area one or whatever its called).

So i then proceed to delete and reinstall using the Service Pack 2 cd that came with my computer thinking this MIGHT do something different and it starts installing XP again only this time it freezes at 33 minutes to go installing the files and i continuosly get stuck on this screen....my mouse and KEYBOARD dont work and if i take the cd out or try another one to continue the setup process i get an error message saying the service pack 2 cd NEEDS to be used to continue the setup but it never works.

Any help as to how i can just delete the install process and start over ?

Format the drive and start again. Download SP2 from the Microsoft site and install that. Disconnect the printer and any external devices before starting.

You may want to start by checking your hard drive with the free diagnostics from the appropriate drive maker's site, and testing the RAM with the free download at www.memtest86.com just to make sure there is not a hardware issue. Hi krazy .

I think with all HP systems you have 2 Disks. one of them is Operating system Disk and the other is Application and DRIVER RECOVERY Disk.

If thats the Case, make sure to use the App and Dri Disk and install all Drivers. If u do not have these disks then go to hp.com/support and download the required drivers

Solve : LOST OUTLOOK 2003 EMAILS AND CONTACTS?

Answer»

I have a HP Pavilion a1514n computer, Windows XP, Office 2003, and on 4/12 (early am) it suddenly rebooted itself and came back w/"System Recovery".  Thinking I was doing a "System Restore", I agreed.

Originally I had 4 user accounts, w/ different email accounts  set up and now have lost all.  I have VERY IMPORTANT EMAILS that I have lost and have searched for the individual file names I had set up in Outlook but the searches come up w/no results.

I have all of my other files and folders but they are not seperated by users.

PLEASE HELP ME!If you in fact did a system recovery then your hard drive was PROBABLY erased. What about any other personal files that may have been on there? Are they gone as well?If my memory serves me correct, I have all other files and folders (such as things saved to desktop, etc.), but everything came up as "Administrator" user...have TRIED to search for the oridinal user account NAME files but no results were found.

Thanks for any help you can give me.If there are no user accounts and no previous files, they are gone. Look closely. You can avoid such catastrophes in the future by BACKING up your Outlook messages, contacts, calendar, etc. and putting those backup files on some media other than your hard drive.  Burn them to CD or DVD, put them on an external hard drive or hard drive on another computer via a LAN, etc.

Solve : Trouble with sound, task bar, and internet?

Answer»

Hi there,
My less than 1 year old PC is PLAYING up in numerous ways. Very frustrating! Can anyone help me?

I am running Windows XP.

1. First of all the sound stopped working, and I received an error message
as follows:

"The system DLL user32.dll was relocated inmemory. The application will not
run properly. The relocation occured because theDLL C:\WINDOWS\syste32HHCTRL.OCX
occupied an ADDRESS range reserved for Windows system DLLs. The vendor
supplying the DLL contacted for a new DLL."

I was told to download this update:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en, and I did and the
problem seemed to be resolved, but returned 2 days later. I again have no
sound.

2. The task bar sometimes randomly loads or just changes styles into a more
traditional, grey, square style.

3. About half the times I turn the computer on and try to access the
internet, it says 'cannot connect to server' and won't even try, and as soon
as I restart the computer there are no problems.

4. When I am on the internet some applications are running extremely slowly
even though there is more than adequate RAM and hard disc space.

I am confused as to what might be causing all this? We have Norton antivirus
installed no our computer, which is updated regularly and has found nothing
'suspicious' in its scans. I have run Ad Aware to check for spyware as well.

I would appreciate any suggestions or ideas! Thankyou.
you have some other  transition PACK /theme from a third party vendor installed,
certain third-party applications may not start, and you receive an
error message when you start the computer ?
Uninstall those Packs/Themes and Windows XP is up and
 running again

delete PARTITIONS, hard disk and
start a fresh install of WindowsHere's the Fix for the error message in your first paragraph.

This will not remove them just dis-able them

See if this IMPROVES things...

Afterwards if it does then turn them on 1 at a time til you find the culprit.

Solve : help..i have a puter down and not sure why...?

Answer»

running windows xp ....

Wife was using her computer and it froze while trying to load a internet screen
she pressed ctrl alt del to get to her task manager to stop the program..

That worked but then the rest of the computer froze...so she shut it dwn manually ..power plug or switch...started it ..loaded FINE untill loading a net screen....It locked up again....pressed ctrl alt del ..stop program ..it works then the rest of the computer froze again..so once agian she manually shut it dwn...

Now here is the problem...when it starts ..there is nothing ..no monitor..key board or mouse funtions....

Help any Idea how to fix... So when the computer starts up, you basically can't do anything?correct

edit:  I have tried removing the battery for 30 mins to reset anything in setup that might have gotten changed....

I have looked at all capacitors to see if any of then popped the top ...I just have no idea...

edit:  is there something i can look for on mother board to tell me if it burnt out ..or even could it be a battery problem?...power supply problem...I am open to any ideas that can help me fix this right away...Wife is not happy not having her computer  Have you tried it with the modem physically removed from
the computer?yes i have tried modem..which is really a network...dsl..home network..

but yes i have removed the card , ethernet card,

The weird part is that network see s it when the power supply is on but network hub LOOSES it when i turn the computer on
I would try another NIC card as they are not that expensive... Quote from: ace1 on April 13, 2007, 06:46:21 AM

yes i have tried modem..which is really a network...dsl..home network..

but yes i have removed the card , ethernet card,

The weird part is that network see s it when the power supply is on but network hub looses it when i turn the computer on

So, with the ethernet card removed, it still locks up, right?

What make and model is this computer?  What are the hardware specs on it?  The ethernet card is a PCI card, right?  So, did that computer not have an onboard LAN port?

If you just disconnect the Cat5 cable from your computer to physically disconnect from the Internet and use the computer for other tasks, will it run right or freeze up at some point?the computer will not do anything but turn on and show its lights...no keyboard ..no monitor...no mouse...as if it was over CLOCK on its proccesor..

but there would be no reason for that do to what i said happen in events to this coming to be as i stated before..if you read above...i have check board out now and even left battery for set up memory out for 2 hrs....

the mother board and all the circuits look good ..nothing popped or blown...
the battery is good ..i just tested on this computer....

I do not know why when the computer froze and was turned off by switch on power supply would cause the puter to not send a signal to monitor or even not the keyboard...I push CAPS lock or num lock and no lights appear ...not even when first turn on....

Only possible thing i can think of is the power supply has shorted some how and is sending to much power to mother board..although i could be wrong ..I just do not now what is causeing it not to even send a signal to either things...

edit: if it matters there are no pretest beeps either...both dvd/cd ROM drives stay light up all the time and can not open then to even take out a disk....only way to power down is swiych on power supply or pull the plug.

Again ..any ideas will help.. thxStrip the system of everything but the motherboard / video / RAM.  Boot the system.  Do you POST?  If so, start adding one component at a time, starting with the keyboard, mouse, etc., until the system fails.  Usually the last component installed is the culprit...though not always.

Alan <><  did that ...right down to just all mother board funtions..the basics...still no signal...on anything

I even dissconnected hard drive to get even a no os present..nothing...

I hooked up an older monitor to see if it would post on that ..same no signal...Do you have another power cord from wall
to computer to try?Is it set for the correct
voltage?  110v,or 220v

If everything you tried failed,I would be thinking
you need a new PSU.

Earlier you were asked by soybean"The name brand
and model number of the computer. You did not respond.
