Solve : Outlook help! I want to send but not receive?

Answer» HELLO i was wondering whether you could help me.

I am trying to send an email out to my work customers from my hotmail ACCOUNT however i would like to send it from microsoft publisher with outlook. Is there ANYWAY i can set the hotmail account on outlook to send only so none of my messages from my hotmail account come through on receive?

I hope this makes sense. Any advice welcome!Send and receive work at the same time. It cannot be separated.Thats a SHAME!

Thanks for your replyYou could temporarily change the name of your POP3/IMAP server to something spurious.  The send would work and then the receive would fail...Got Outlook 2003 here and I definitely can send only.  I just click on the Send All button.  Don't you have the Send All button?  You ahould also see Send All if you click on the drop arrow on the Send/Receive button.

Solve : System stop when sending e-mail with OE6?

Answer»

Dear friends,
my system is WIN XP SP2 and I am using outlook express 6 as e-mail-program.
When I send an e-mail with attachements (documents, photos etc.) all the system stop and I must reset the COMPUTER. The program doesn't show any error message. After restarting the e-mail is shown as sent but I cannot restart the PC every time!
Please, help me.
Thank you very much.
BenedettoPlease provide a LOT more information, like  internet CONNECTION, ISP, malware protection being used, etc. See below.

Has it always been this way or did it just start? What about a system restore to a point before this began?Does this problem happen with any and all attachments?  In other words, do small attachments, such as a single Word file, also cause this behavior?

You say "After restarting the e-mail is shown as sent".  Do the messages always, in fact, get sent?   Have you verified this with the recipient? Now: the internet connection is an ADSL (called "broadband 2Mb" here in Sweden) and I have Ewido as malware program and AD-Aware plus AVG antivirus (free edition). These programs runs every week.
The problem came only circa 15 days ago. All the other programs run normally.
I have verified that the messages are really send.
The problem happen with all the types of attachements (word, jpg, excel and so on).
Many THANKS for the help.
BenedettoWell, you might try these steps as a beginning point.  Run Windows Disk Cleanup, and then run OE Cleanup (Tools, Options, Maintenance, Clean Up Now).  Hi Soybean and thank you.
I  did as you said but when I open Toolwaiting for your kind reply.

Solve : Info on a dial up modem driver??

Answer»

My sister was given an older home built computer with Windows 98SE.

I was checking it out. Everytime you turn around or do anything that requires a restart, it freezes and says "illegal operation" bla, bla. Have to hold the power button in or the three finger salute to kill it.

It seems to be in good shape, no virus's or anything serious, malware, etc. It was maintained well, it appears. It did however have "Tweak UI",  "System Mechanic" and "Power Quest Partition Magic" on it.

I don't know what has been altered here.

She has the disks for everything but the dial up MODEM. If I were to format and reload the OS would it load a usable driver for the dial up modem?

Asus P3C-E motherboard, windows 98SE, 256 mb of pc800 memory ( holy cow, expensive stuff   ), 28GB Intel hard drive.

Thanks,Download Belarc Adviser and run it to get a report of all hardware and software in that computer.  If you can't download it now because the computer locks up, can you download it to your computer and transfer it to her computer someway?  If so, I would go ahead and format and reinstall Windows.  Then, you can run Belarc Adviser and get name of the modem.  Then, you should able to get a driver from the manufacturer's website or another source such as http://www.driversguide.com/, although, again, you may have to download it if her computer will not connect to the Internet until the modem driver is installed.

By the way, your info seems to contain a contradiction.  You say, "Everytime you turn around or do anything that requires a restart, it freezes and says "illegal operation" bla, bla."  If that's true, then how did you determine "It seems to be in good shape, no virus's or anything serious, malware, etc."?Look in device manager and see if the modem is IDENTIFIED. You might be able to update the drivers from there. If you need to know what drivers are actually being loaded, go to start/run and type hwinfo /ui | more (exactly as shown). You should be prepared for several pages of information as will show EVERY driver for EVERY device that windows is loading. Sorry XP people, it won't work for you. Yes that was confusing I guess. Trying to type the post too fast, I guess.

I determined it was in good shape by running Avast, A2squared, Spybot, Adaware, all updated before running. Also have CCleaner installed and updated.

It happens after say downloading Microsoft Windows updates. And it then prompts you to restart. It will give this message. Or sometimes when you just close a webpage.

It does not do it every 5 minutes.

I have ran Spybot and Avast and Adaware in safe mode, nothing.

For some reason I can't run A2squared in safe mode. I can't get to the scan button. The page is too big when in safe mode.  And I can't drag it or move it.

The device manager says the modem is a Zoom V90 PCI faxmodem, Zoom telephonics, Inc.

Thanks,

Probably a dumb question. Is there any way to harvest the modem driver and save it somehow? Quote

Probably a dumb question. Is there any way to harvest the modem driver and save it somehow?

Yes.  Go back to reply #1, by me, and read the first paragraph.Ow download and run Everest Home and get the specific model. If you need to you can also pull it out physically and look on it for identifying marks, FCC #,etc.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.htmlAlso FordMan if you are fairly savvy with editing in DOS mode you can re-name the win.com file to win.old ;re-install Win98SE and all her programs and SETTINGS will be retained.
This is basically a repair install procedure of Win98...

patio.   8-)I am burning Everest as I type this on my computer.

I did load Belarc Advisior in it. It identified it the same as the device manager did.

I will re-clarify. The computer acts up only when prompted to do a re-start or sometimes when closing a page. It will be an illegal operation warning or there is a problem do you want to send a report to Microsoft. It can be online for as long as a person likes. (as long as the dial up connection does not quit)

So can I actually extract the driver from this computer somehow?

I am also looking at the driverguide page, I will need to breakdown exactly which modem it is to use their download.

Don't know anything about DOS, but can follow instructions and learn.

Thanks

Update

Everest says - PCI Device - AT&T/Lucent Venus V90/ 56k FLEX WinModem
Driver Description - Zoom V90 PCI Faxmodem / Driver Date 4-22-99.

At Driver Guide, do I look for AT&T, Lucent or Zoom?

I have removed System Mechanic from the computer. For instance, I ran its defrag for the heck of it, then ran the OS defrag and it was a mess after running the System Mechanic one. I am not an expert by any means but I was not real impressed with its functions. That is a 1998 or 99 vintage 56Flex modem. They were not the best. I would suggest a new one for $10 or less.

Try this one:

http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=326

Driverguide also has a shareware program that would backup all of your drivers for easy reinstallation to the same OS. It is free to use for a period odf days:

GX1_Man,

I hear you on the price of the dial up modem. If I wanted one quick though, I would have to get it at my local Wal-Mart they are about $20. something, for a US Robotics one. The local computer shop is usually closed by the time the wife and I get out in the evening. But his are about the same price, he has Intel modems.

I will have a look at the links you gave me. Thanks for the Everest link, too. I have seen it mentioned many times on here but never had the need to load it.

Wow! It GIVES you a lot of info about your computer.

Thanks,
Save the Everest file. Links to it are drying up as now they want to sell the program only.  Also that $20.00 for a new U.S.Robotics will be money well spent...

Sorry,

I have been trying to respond here for the last two nights, trouble with the internet provider.

GX1_Man,

I did physically pull the dial up modem and got the model number from it. I got the correct driver for it at Driverguide. I found it as well at the manufacturer's web-site and also they had a flash upgrade for the driver.

Solve : Settings not working on user account ??

Answer»

Good Morning All,
My computer started to have a ton of pop ups, I'm sure it is a virus or worm, HOWEVER, when I startup in safe mode to try to download a spyware removal program, the safe mode does not recognize any internet connections. Should this happen?  How can I get to the web to even download a program to check for viruses? When in safe mode I can see the desktop icons and get to the programs but not when I start windows normally under my user account the background page and there are no processes or apps running in the task manager. Any ideas on how to get this back?We need a LOT more information to help you.

Operating system / do you have any antivirus-antispyware already installed / if so do you keep them updated and run on a regular basis / have you tried running what you've got?

When going into safe mode are you choosing "Safe Mode with Networking"?  If you don't then you WON'T be able to connect to the internet.

Post back with more info and we can help you better

Alan <><

Sorry for being so vauge. I was trying to keep it simple. I am running Windows XP Service Pack 2 it is my home computer with an administrator setting and 1 user setting with administrative funtions. I have run adaware, (the free one by lavasoft). It did find some things to quarantine. No, I did not go into safe mode with networking, I thought that was for a computers set up with a server. I will try that tonight, to see if I can get to the web to download another cleaner type program. Anything else I should try?Ok,

1st, have you tried going back using system restore to a TIME when you didn't have these problems?  If not, try.  If you have and you still have issues, do the following:

Go here and run:

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

Go here, download, update and run:

http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5#ewido-free

Go here, download, update and run:

http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10122137.html

I run 4 different anti-spyware on my systems to keep them clean.  I've very diligent about doing that as I run my business off one of them and can't afford to have it go down.

If you're not hooked on Windows, you might try looking into LINUX as an alternative.  It's a steep learning curve (I started my journey about a week ago) but if for nothing else, the security on how Linux is constructed MAKES me sleep easier at night

Hope these suggestions help

Solve : Clean Start up?

Answer»

When my laptop starts up it takes a long time and I wold like to reduce the LIST of programmes that start.
Most are unnecessary and are probably on my desktop.
As I haven`t got a clue, could you please explain in simple persons language.
Thanks
Martyn
The BEST place to start is from within the programs themselves, look around in them for options to stop them starting at boot up.
After that you could look in msconfig, then run a Hijackthis log and SEE what's left.
You would also BENEFIT by disabling unwanted windows services.

One step at a time. Click Start>>>Run>>> type msconfig
Then Click Start-Up Tab
Then untick which one you dont like to run at start-up

if really need assistance with that...
Would you please post the screenshot of the above i mentioned?

Unfortunately, the forum does not provide a way to upload pics; you can only point to a Web site address where the image is located.  If you set up a Web site, you will be able to do this.  OTHERWISE, you have to enter the names yourself, if you still would like us to look them up and advise you on what is a virus and what is harmless.

Solve : problem copying files?

Answer»

i just finished reformatting my pc, and when windows(xp) starts to copy files to be used on my hard disk, the error "can't read from source" COMES up. sometimes its shell.dll or SOMETHING that cannot be copied, the file changes with every restart i make. i switched cd roms and cd installers but the same problem always comes up.

any ideas on this one?Try reading http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=257954

These disks ARE legal, right? Have you ever installed XP on this machine before, without problems?its legit, and ive used the same cd on 3 DIFFERENT pc's and it works. i used it before on this machine, but it seems to have that problem now.

got it to work now, changed the memory card, dunno what the connection is but is working now. tried to insert the old memory after installation and the system always crashes at startup. Quote

Solve : synchronizing movies with subtitles?

Answer»

so any solution for this PROBLEM .... the movie doesnt go with the subtitle ..... any chance to synchronize them up ?A little more info on what you are trying to accomplish and someone will be along shortly...

PATIO.    8-)i thought i made myself clear .... anyway , let me put it in DIFFERENT words

the problem is : the subtitle doesnt go with the movie , the actor says smthng and the subtitle says smthng else .... there is a time difference between the two .... is there any way to fix that ?Do you see some options on screen at the beginning of the movie to select subtitle settings?  Have you experimented with that?

What software are you using to play DVDs?  Does it have some menu options for changing subtitle behavior?no , i dont see any options...

i use windows media PLAYER classic with k-lite megapack codec .... there are options for subtitles yes ... but i cant find anything to achieve my goal .... here's a pic for the options if this could help

Quote

the problem is : the subtitle doesnt go with the movie , the actor says smthng and the subtitle says smthng else .... there is a time difference between the two .... is there any way to fix that ?
Can you elaborate on this?  Are you talking about a movie where the actor may have actually been speaking one language but you can opt to display another language in text on the screen, or hear the movie in a different language?

I really haven't watched many movies on my computer.  But, I know with one DVD I watched, starting the DVD displayed some options which really seemed to be displayed from within the movie screen and not from the application being used to play the DVD.

Again, I have to admit my understanding of how these subtitles work is very limited.  But, isn't the on-screen behavior you mentioned fairly common with subtitles?  I mean, how can you have good lip-sync when the actor was actually speaking one language but you've elected to hear it in another language?

And, if you're not talking about different languages, don't some movies just get made with poor lip-sync for this purpose?  In other words, maybe the problem is not your software, it's just poor quality movie recording.actually the movie is in english and the subtitles in english too .... also the movie is a DVD rip so no poor quality is involved here ... and i think i can tell whether the actor is saying the words that appear on the screen or not Quote
.... also the movie is a DVD rip so no poor quality is involved here ...
I think you don't understand the point.  The original DVD may have been a SHINY new one, in excellent condition.  That's not the point.  If the film production company did a poor job of synchronizing subtitles, then you have no control over that, and ripping has nothing to do with it.
mido, can you try playing that movie in another computer or a regular DVD player and see how it works?  This should give you clear evidence of whether or not your computer is playing it right.soybean ,  i think that you didnt get my point

i am not talking about one specific movie .... but all the movies ..... in general

i want a way to synchronize subtitles with the movieS in general .... that's all am askingOK, mido, I just did a Google search on synchronizing movie subtitles and the first hit should be of interest to you: WeetHet - Video - Synchronizing subtitles for your DivX

Solve : Computer (Registry) Desperation?

Answer»

Well I've posted my problem in numerous forums and such and have found no help whatsoever so hopefully this place can be my lucky break. hello.gif

Anyway, my registry is all screwed up, TOTALLY and majorly, and I have no CD's for my computer anymore, how I don't, I don't know why considering my older brother must've done something with them because I didn't touch them. My computer will not allow me to view, resize, or modify digital camera pictures properly and Windows Explorer does not work properly anymore as well. I can't really explain anything much more than that other than I know that it's something dealing with the registry because I was stupid and probably deleted something impossible to get back. I have already tried 2-3 different backup programs and have wasted around 7-10 CD's because the backup programs will not work. I've tried emailing the pictures to myself but due to the large file sizes and numerous numbers of folders it's pretty much impossible, EVEN IF I DO COMPRESS THEM! I've pretty much tried everything except completely swiping the computer and starting from a clean slate but before I can do that I have to get rid of my important picture files because they mean a lot to me and I can't just dispose of them. I have around 2000+ digital camera files (Yeah...save the Holy CRAP!!!'s) that I will not allow to be erased ALONG with everything else, like programs that I can get back, but pictures I cannot. But like I said before, I have no CD's to go along with my computer and someone suggested the destruction mode thing on startup that does not require me to have any cd's but I can't do that until I figure out a way to get these pictures off. If anyone has a solution for me, please tell me because my computer has been like this for over two months and I'm fed up with it because I can't even do things with the pictures (like make graphics or send to friends or upload) without something stupid happening.
Please and thank you.You need to hook up that hard drive into a known working computer and retrieve your data off of it and burn it to CD's...as far as getting that machine to run properly you will need to invest in those shiny new MS CD's we discuss here often.

patio.   8-)Thanks for the advice but seeing as this is the only computer in the house that is pretty much out of the question.
You don't happen to know anyone else out there that has a working computer ? ?

patio.    8-)Yeah, sure I do, but what METHOD would I use to do such a thing?Unless you are very lucky, you ARE going to need a fully legal Windows disk. Either get yours back or get a new one. You can perform a repair install without losing your data... if you have a disk.Alright, which CD are we TALKING about? I know the computer comes with a few different ones but is it the Windows Recovery one or something? It's been so long. Anyway, if that is what it is, or whatever it is, is there anyway to make my own, or download one (legally) or anything like that? I'd MUCH rather do that (even if I have to get one mailed to me) then risk losing all of this important stuff. You can buy a legal one at WalMart and many other store. You cannot legally download one. Patio gave you the correct information is response #1. Up there.

Is this XP Home or Pro? What service pack is on there? Quote

Yeah, sure I do, but what method would I use to do such a thing?
The method would be to "install" your hard drive as a second hard drive in their computer and then burn your photos to CD or whatever.  By install, I don't mean you would need to physically mount the drive in the case as you would for a permanent installation.  It must connected to the data cable and a power cord but does not need to permanently mounted in the case; it can be simply placed on a solid surface but do not let the circuitry on the bottom of the hard drive to contact metal parts in the computer.  Your drive would be set a slave, and the other hard drive in the computer would be set a master.

I think the other solution you need to pursue further is to buy a new hard drive for your computer, either locate your Recover CD or buy a Windows CD so that you can format and reinstall Windows, install Windows on the new hard drive, and either leave the old drive installed as slave so that you can retrieve the photos from it, or buy a USB external enclosure for your old hard drive and use it as backup drive.

Solve : ALT/TAB program?

Answer»

Hello, I need some advice on where to start to create a program or purchase a program where the computer switches between 2 programs that are running or a MACHINE. One program is a browser based ticker and another is a call center program.

This is for a call center that has a computer with two 50 in plazma displays. We want to be able to cycle at an interval between the two programs. Should be cool.

Could'nt a msdos program run and cycle alt/tab EVERY 20 seconds?

Any help WOULD be great! Not sure about how to do that, but maybe you can put each program on a different monitor?Any decent macro program could do this for you.  They can be tricky to learn, but the one I use is >AutoHotKey<.  It's extremely versatile.  Try asking the same question on their forum.Thank you! That sofware looks promising.

Solve : Error copying file or folder?

Answer»

Hi,

My friend has a problem of when he copys some files to an external disk/USB/CD it gives him an error that it cant copy, "Error copying FILE or FOLDER"

He can copy some of the files he selected but not all, typically there music and video files

There doesnt seem to be any folder permisions set.

Any ideas?CD is different than an external disk. Which is it? Are you using a CD or CDRW disc if it is an external CD?Its to anything external, my friend wants to backup his computer before he does a format. So any special burning software or just what's with WINDOWS? Has this ever worked correctly on this machine? Quote

...My friend has a problem of when he copys some files to an external disk/USB/CD it gives him an error that it cant copy, "Error copying file or folder"...

Often with this error Windows also provides an error code number.  For example, error #112 means there is not enough space on the removable drive or CD.

Does your friend see an error code number with the error message?maybe SOMETHING wrong with software u'r friend wants to make backup with ?
That's the problem with second hand questions. Usually a LOT of information is missing. Perhaps the friend could post so we could ask him the details?

Solve : Lose Memory Everytime I restart my computer!!?

Answer»

Why do I lose space on my HARD drive whenever I turn my computer off or restart it??
I lose around 100 mb everytime, and soon will have no space left on my computer.
Can someone please help me!
Thank you!Several possibilities, three of which are:

A. You do not have enough RAM (memory) installed on the motherboard and are using programs that require more RAM than you have, so Windows is adjusting the size of the Windows pagefile.

B. A virus is replicating itself (thus adding to the files on your hard drive) or attaching itself to more and more files (thus increasing the size of those files).

C. You are DOWNLOADING large video or music files, which take up much space on your hard drive.

Quote

C. You are downloading large video or music files, which take up much space on your hard drive.

Its most likely that I am downloading large videos and music files but don't why is it still downloading once I turn my computer off? I am sorry if I am not specific enough.
You Maybe have Hard Drive Leakeage.. I had the same problem.. Everytime i was restarting my computer, i loose 500 mb 5x faster than yours.. and i backuped my data and reformated my computer.. and it works fine now, but it is most likely caused by a vorius that is making the files bigger, or the virus is leaking your hard drive.. by that i mean is the firus is setting up an unallocated partition.. everytime you restart it changes the size of your hard drive partition, and that might be your problem.. Or what pcdoc4christ said "A. You do not have enough RAM (memory) installed on the motherboard and are using programs that require more RAM than you have, so Windows is adjusting the size of the Windows pagefile.  " that might be also true.
How much ram do you have?
Check your harddrive size just before restarting. Then reboot in safe mode. Keep hitting F8 when your computer boots up. Look at your harddisk size now. Then restart normally, and RECORD your new harddisk space. Post back the results. No feedback for over 5 hours, those leaky bits are probably running out on the desk by now. LOL

lol is there any other way of fixing this other than formating?

You have to determine what is causing the problem before you can fix it.

If it is a virus, reformatting the hard drive will fix it, or installing a GOOD antivirus program, downloading the latest virus definitions and updating it will fix it.

If programs that download files are to blame, stop using the programs or uninstall them.

If Windows Update is to blame, you can delete the backup files Windows makes before installing the updates.

If the pagefile size is to blame, you can add more RAM sticks to your computer.

If you have set the disk space for temporary Internet files too large, you can decrease the size in the Internet Explorer options.

You can also use the disk CLEANUP feature of Windows to safely delete temporary files your computer no longer needs.

DocAnd if Windows is to blame, use Linux.   Quote

Solve : Taskbar balloon tips revisited?

Answer»

I would like to re-submit a question that I asked a little while ago, but never did recieve a solution.  The thread got a little side-tracked.  If there is no solution, then so be it, but I find this rather annoying.  I have an HP Pavilion a1220n desktop with XP service pack 2.  About half of the time, the balloon tips to my start button, the time, and my icons in the notification area are hidden BEHIND the taskbar.  I can see just the top of these balloon tips, but am unable to read them because a considerable portion are "behind" the taskbar.  This does not happen on a consistant basis, and I cannot determine a single clue as to when this does happen, versus when it does not.  Any thoughts would be appreciated.  Thank you.  P.S.  I have attempted to describe this problem to the best of my ability, but please don't hesitate to request further information.  rlprlp.......  This is just a shot in the dark , because of your description , but do you mean the "tip of the day" , which would be displayed down at the bottom of your screen ...if you have the tip of the day in the explorer bar ticked?  If thats it , simply grab the top edge of the tip window and drag it up a little bit and you will be able to see the whole tip ........

dl65  You could just switch 'em off...  Check out >this page<.Right click on the Task Bar, select Properties & tick the 'Always on Top box'.Goodness; thank you for all the responses!  Let me try to answer them all.  No, I'm not referring to the
"Tip of the day".  Here is a specific example:  the balloon tip that reads "Click here to begin" when the mouse pointer is hovered over the Start button.  Turning off the balloon tips altogether would defeat my purpose; I WANT to be able to read them.  I'm especially interested in being able to read the balloon tips that are generated by my security program icons in the notification area, as they give quick tidbits of information regarding the status of the program, and that they are up to date. (That is, when I CAN read them!)  "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows" is checked in my Taskbar Properties dialog box.  Thank you again to all.I would like to add that what puzzles me is the inconsistency of this behavior.  This morning, right now as I type this, the balloon tips are acting correctly.  They are appearing on top of the dark blue taskbar.  Who knows when, but they will (they always do!) eventually begin to pop up behind the the taskbar, and then (once again, who knows when!) they will go back to normal.  Back and forth, back and forth...  I seem to have about a 50/50 shot at getting a balloon tip that I can read.  How about a screen shot so we're sure of what the problem is?Well, to be honest, I don't know how to make a screenshot.  I'm sure I could learn.  But even then, you would have to "stand by" until the next time it starts acting up.  (At the moment, balloon tips are working normally.)  I know we're not getting side-tracked again, because this is directly related to my original question:  Is this the proper procedure to make a screen shot in CH?  http://ask-leo.com/whats_a_screen_shot_and_how_do_i_make_one.html

Thank you.  Yes, that link explains how to make a screen print.  If you can, I suggest trimming the image to the portion that SHOWS your taskbar with a balloon tip partially hidden.  If you do not trim, you'll have a very large image to post and we don't need to see your entire monitor display.  Also, the image file SIZE is going be directly related to the physical size of the image.  By trimming and using JPEG as the file format, I made this image which is 21,260 bytes:

By the way, I understand your problem.  I've seen that on my system, too, but not for quite a while now.  I recall a spell when it happened quite frequently, but it has not done that in recent months.  I don't recall discovering a specific solution to it.  So, I can't say why it stopped.Understood.  Now I just have to wait for it to act up.  (Still normal.)  Will this be like taking your car to the mechanic?  Watch it never happen again, now!!  Will return to this thread with a screen shot at first chance.  Thanks to all.   rlprlp..... If it's of any consolation , on one of my pcs, the hide icon button will simply disappear for no apparent reason ...and a few hours or days later it reappears . It seems it's something in windows ...... and doesnt effect anything.
Perhaps you just learn to live with it ............ lol

"Keep the taskbar on top of other windows" is checked in my Taskbar Properties dialog box.  Thank you again to all.
Understood, but try this and see how Windows RESPONDS.  Uncheck the box for "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows", click Apply and OK and exit the Properties panel.  Then, go back in and check the box again.  See whether Windows resets this feature and it works right again, at least for awhile.
Soybean: I'll try that.  Only time will tell if it works.  Dl65:  Why, yes, I will have to learn to live with it if there is no fix.  I won't have a choice, will I?  (What can you do!?!?)  Just an idle thought, update Windows & update your Video Drivers from the manufacturer's website.
Video drivers can do some strange things on screens, they work on black magic just like Windows.

Solve : I can't get to my documents?

Answer»

Alright so here's what's going on with my computer: We got a new computer a while ago but it is not a brand name or anything. We put it together ourselves, and it's 64-bit rather than 32-bit so in order to maximize our computer's capabilities we downloaded Windows x64 which is windows xp for 64-bit computers. But, it was only a trial and it soon expired. I was unaware that it was a trial and had been playing games on it. When the trial expired we installed regular windows xp for 32-bit computers and it has been working just fine. But, my problem is that I want to play my games. I REINSTALLED the games and have been trying to access the saved games on windows x64 but it says that access is denied. I have tried rebooting the computer with windows x64 to see if I could move the FILES out of my documents and into another folder that would be accessable to windows xp but windows x64 will not boot up. When I go to boot up the screen goes black and I end up having to shut the computer down. I was wondering if you have any other suggestions as to what to do about getting into my documents on windows x64. I would really appreciate it. ThanksChances are you chose the option in the other operating system to make the files private, which adds encryption to them and keeps other users of the computer from accessing them.  Answering a few questions will help us help you:

When you installed the Windows XP version you are using now, did it keep your user name and password, or did you have to enter a new user name and password during the installation of the operating system?

ALSO, are the files located in your old My Documents folder or in some other folder?

FINALLY, are you now using Windows XP Home Edition, Windows XP Professional, or Windows XP Media Edition?

Solve : 10 minute XP boot?

Answer»

Hi, over the last few months my computer has been booting up slower and slower. It's up to 10 minutes now. I'm putting any information that might be useful at the end of this message. I've tried limiting the NUMBER of programs that load on startup using msconfig and the services that run automatically in XP using services.msc. I've run Spybot Search & Destroy, and Ad-Aware, all they've found are some tracking cookies. Norton antivirus does a full scan every Friday night. I have Norton System Doctor running all the time and run Windoctor and Cleanup frequently. I've also maxed out my memory at 384mb, my computer only has 3 slots. If anyone has any ideas what I could do to speed up the boot process I WOULD really appreciate it. Thanks!

Thanks for your replies! I did a clean install of XP in 2003, I think. Then copied all my files back onto my computer. I have no way of doing that now since I used my ex's computer on a network to store my files. I don't have any way to back up my STUFF. Although, I do have 2 hard drives now. My C drive has XP installed on it, while the D drive ahs all my programs on it. Maybe I could store everything on the D drive and reinstall XP on the C drive?

I took a screenshot of my task manager since there were so many processes running. Here it is right after I started my computer, I had to link to it since the file was too big. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g67/caseopele/Other%20Pictures/Taskmanager.jpg

Thanks again for your help!Oops, I forgot to answer Soybean's question. It's only been in the last few months that the boot time has gotten this bad. It was usually between 2-5 minutes, depending on how many programs I had running at startup. Now it's at least 10 minutes every time, no matter if I limit the amount of programs running on startup. Thanks again!well, 42 processes really is not out of the ordinary.  I don't know what all of them are without doing some research.  I can see that you have AOL Instant Messenger, and AOL.  Do you use them?  Not a PROBLEM.  But, if you don't use them, might as well remove them.

Some good references on computer processes are on the Internet, such as WinTasks Process Library.  I suggest you spend some time getting more familiar the processes you see in your Task Manager panel.

How long since you ran Disk Cleanup?  And, Disk Defragmenter?  How much free space, percentage wise, do you have on your hard drive?

I suggest you download CCleaner and run the Windows, Applications, and Issues scans.  5 minutes is too long and 2 is pushing the envelope for acceptable boot time. There are other issues for sure - hardware and/or software.

please tell me if you know what i should do?Check for loose connections to the drive inside the case. Make sure the CD is seen in the BIOS.

If that is all OK, then you need a new CDROM drive. Sometimes they die. How old is it?The first thing i would TRY would be to power down the machine. Unplug the PSU from the wall. Ground yourself on the case and re-seat the wiring to the CD unit. The small 4 prong connector is the power LEAD...the other one is the IDE cable.
After doing this plug in the machine and re-boot. Try the solutions you have been thru already...if you get no response the unit could very well be DOA...

Thanks "pcdoc4christ"  to delete is not important

important thigs is to find out which program use  zodehala.....  Is this something which has just started ? It is normal to see that error message appear if the file you are trying to delete is in use , or open ...... Make sure that that file or folder is closed .   Recently I had a empty folder which I couldn't send to the recycle bin ......( what I did rather than reboot into safe mode ) was to open the folder which contained the empty file folder  ...... in a reduced size window , then I simply dragged the folder I wished to remove across and into the recycle bin ...worked like a charm .

Solve : Problems with windows update??

I installed Windows XP Home Edition with SP1 on a brand new home built computer and downloaded the beginning programs, firefox, spyware blaster, etc. and I visited microsoft.com to install all the updates ; SP2 I believe among other things, and when I shut the computer down to finalize the installation of the updates it did not boot back up. It just stays on the Windows XP screen with the moving blue bars then goes black and goes to the first boot screen again. I system restored to before the updates and tried to install them before I installed all my other programs and when I restarted it after the installation it failed to boot up again? Any ideas as to what's happening will be greatly appreciated. Thanks lukeluke......

Agreed. If memory serves me , I SEEM to recall that if you have sp1 and go to MS update site to get sp2 ........ it scans your machine then directs to the express d/l ..... at this time the WGA test must be passed ..........  or things will not go as anticipated .  So it really isnt SP2 that detects it , but rather WGA.

I was just wondering if anyone could help me with a problem that im having with WINDOWS xp?! I am TRYING to print out a page/save a page from a website (which updates statisitcs on traffic information regularly THROUGHOUT the day) and i was wondering whether there was any way to set up the computer to do it automatically? As you can imagine i dont intend on spending every evening at HOME and all weekend printing off this page every hour! So is there some sort of funtion on windows xp that can either save the page to a folder say every hour for the next week or print it out to a printer?! I do apologise if this is from page one of Windows for dummies! But my weekend is beginning to look like it might be dictated by the computer! Thanks for any advice at all on this

lettyThe easiest way would be to install a program designed to do this.  Other than that, you would have to write a script to accomplish it, as there is no setting in Windows for this function.

I have a FUJITSU siemens laptop, with Windows XP home edition.  Due to constant crashes we uninstalled everything and reinstalled it, subsequently we had to reactivate XP.  After a trauma last night of multiple error messages the helpline were able to fix the activation problem, but now none of my USB devices are working......I have an HP printer, A USB 4 point hub, a USB trust sound 5.1 and a Seagate external hard drive.  In device manager all of the above have the yellow exclamation icon, when I right click it says there is a problem with all the drivers.  Have tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but error messages appear stating files are missing (such as usbhub) or that the driver is unsigned and cant be installed.  Some of the devices never had drivers in the first place, they are plug and play!!
i would greatly appreciate any help and advice anyone has to offer, please let me know if any further details are required.  am at my wits end, stupid computer!!   Yep that sounds like a driver problem.. so go here:http://www.driversguide.com and register there it is free. and find all of the drivers that yuo need for your USB Ports... Run Everest frist and it will tell you what the model names of the USB HUBS are: site is : http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4181.html and pick wich mirrior you are going to use and download it.. Hope this helps..Hi, thanks for the help....
I got an Everest report, which gave me the details of the devices but my problem is now that when I plug in  any of the USB devices it looks for an installation CD, which never existed in the first place.  Am most confused.......
here is some of the report info in case it helps in any way.  or maybe its irrelevant, i dunno.

Open Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager and scroll down to the bottom...
Find ALL instances of USB ports and hubs ; right clik them and select "Remove"
You will get an error message ignore it and when your done shut down the system.
Unplug ALL USB devices and re-boot. XP will automatically re-install the USB drivers for your system.
Shut down again and one at a time while powered down plug one USB device in and re-boot.
Repeat this for each device making sure you are plugging each in while powered down and you should be good to go...

patio.   8-)Hi

ok, i removed all the instances (usb hub and controllers, etc) and when i shutdown the computer and started it up again , the computer found the hardware but then a message came up asking would i like to install these drivers as they are not digitally signed by microsoft - i clicked yes anyway and another message came up saying that it couldnt find the apropriate files - so now i cant install the usb hardware - if it helps it was LOOKING for files in a folder called - service PACK, but with no luck
Right-click My Computer and click Properties.
Under Microsoft Windows XP, does it say Service Pack 2?

If not, use Windows Update to download and install SP2, which has fixes for USB support problems with the earlier release of the operating system.

If your system does have SP2 installed, then try this solution from Microsoft:

Solve : System loops on boot?

Answer»

I'm having various problems with my PC (Compaq 7PL290 Pressario running XP Pro) but I think it boils down to a Windows problem or a corrupted disk.  I need help on figuring out what to do.  Here's the history (it's a little long but I've been playing with this for a while).
The system started to hang when XP started to boot.  I found that if, during boot, I did not touch the mouse or the keyboard until the boot process completed the hang did not occur.  The system would still hang at some point, usually after several hours, but the boot would complete.
Then the system stopped booting at all.  The drive lights would light but nothing happended - nothing on the monitor, no disk activity at all.  I could not get into the BIOS or do a safe boot.  It was like the power was on but the system was dead.  I pulled the memory and tried to boot, no change, I disconnected the two hard drives (system disk and a user disk) - no change, I tried booting from a  different drive and from the XP disk, no change.  I FIGURED I had a blown motherboard but I put the memory back in, connected the original two drives  and tried one more time.  The system started to boot!  The Compaq logo comes up and then the windows startup screen but after a few seconds it now loops back to the beginning of the boot process, compaq logo comes up, windows startup screen and then it starts over again.   I still can't bring up the BIOS screen or get a safe boot.
One interesting thing is that I disconnected what I thought was the system disk and left the user drive connected and tried to boot. (They are not labeled and I wanted to MAKE sure which was which before I WIPE out the wrong drive.)  The system failed to boot because it could not find the windows files.  When I disconnected the user drive and reconnected the system disk and booted, I GOT the 'windows did not start correctly last time, do you want to do a safe boot' screen.  I selected safe boot but the system just went into the same boot loop.
Any suggestions or ideas on what to do next.  I'm assuming the operating system is hosed and I need to re-install it but not being able to get into the BIOS makes me think that something else is gong on too.The fact that you are able to boot the computer sometimes and not others points to a hardware failure as the most likely culprit, but a virus might also be to blame.  Do you hear a whirring sound or a metallic ping?  If so, your assumption that the hard drive is going bad is likely correct.  If not, the power supply is probably dying hard or overtaxed, and the symptoms might continue until it is replaced.Everything sounds normal.Update the antivirus definitions in your antivirus program and do a full system scan.

Make sure your electrical outlet is supplying the correct voltage (use a multimeter to test it if you KNOW what you are doing), or bring the computer to a repair shop and have them test the power supply or replace it.

There might be a short on the motherboard, or a problem with one of the expansion cards, so you can try removing all but the necessary the expansion cards to see if the problem ceases.  However, if the problem still persists, you should rule out the power supply as the cause by installing a known good one.

Solve : Problems with vax347b.sys?

Answer»

Recently i've been unable to start up my computer in normal or safe mode. When i start in safe mode it goes down the LIST of processes and then says to press ESC to stop loading vax347b.sys. Regardless of whether i try to stop loading it or not, the computer doesnt go any farther from here. Ive heard that its part of Alcohol 120%, and I wouldnt mind UNINSTALLING that, its just that I dont know how to uninstall anything when the computer wont even start up. I have a RAID mirror setup, and i have already disabled and tried each drive seperately. After I set the RAID back up it starts up saying its Degraded, but I assume I'll be able to fix this once the computer will start again (it's not really a problem, I just wanted to provide enough information). The main thing I dont want to do it have to reinstall windows, because I don't want to lose my files. I could try to reinstall on one drive and then use another as a SLAVE and move all my files that way, but that would be a lot of work and I'm trying to find an easier way. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appriciated. Is this a legal Windows install and a legal version of Alcohol 120? If so, contact their WEB support. I bet they have seen this before.ok

Solve : erratic behaviour after power outages?

Answer»

I am having some strange problems.... the power snapped off in the neighbourhood causing restarts of my computer.  I have no idea how many times it happend.. My symptoms are varied and intermittent:  the wacom tablet freezes but I can use the regular mouse;  I can access MSn but not google: my monitor blinks brighter in the blue menu areas,  photoshop froze when webroot started a scan, and when it ended, the photoshop workspace was missing except for the images and the palettes!   it was still frozen an hour LATER.  when my monitor flickers, my cpu fan seems to change momentum...
i did a check for damaged ram and that seemed fine.  this morning the computer was its spunky old self, but then after an hour I had trouble receiving email and accessing sites...... verrrrrrry slow.

are these symptoms of the beginning of the end??    is it just the power supply? or are these virus spyware symptoms?   I keep getting clean scans with webroot and trend micro.  I finally uninstalled adaware and spybot and microsoft beta in case they were conflicting. they didn't find ANYTHING either.
I don't want to ahve to reformat my drive if I don't have to.

help! spybot adaware and windows wouldnt conflict..

did u have a surge protector with this happened?? did you do all of the scans in safe mode with system restore off??The power supply and/or motherboard could have been damaged, but we have absolutely NO info about your machine. See below.yes I had a surge protector on but not a UPS. that is in place now.

yes I did the goldmemory scan in safe mode , it does it all by itself, otherwise I don't know how.
the antivirus and antispyware scans are just run as usual, on a regular basis, and are up to date.
I re:installed adaware and ran that and it claims things are clean.

Solve : Print Preview?

Answer»

Well, when I GO to print preview all the previews are in the actual color, so they look exactly the same as on the screen.

What's the problem with that, you MAY ask? I use a Brother HL-2040, which doesn't pront in color. So, I want all my previews to be grayscaled, but I can't find a setting to do this. How can I?

Using WinXP OEM SP2.I would do a Copy & Paste to a Word or Open Office page and change the color of the text to black. Then do your Print Preview.

my 2¢
Tim, UNFORTUNATELY this is dependant on the PRINTER driver.  If the printer driver does not handle greyscaling the preview then you're stuck with that, I'm afraid.  Some programs (notably design software) will provide the facility to preview in greyscale, but there is no GENERIC way of doing this.

Your display driver may give you the option of viewing your screen in greyscale, which would give a similar effect.  Or you could take a screenshot of the print preview and then convert to greyscale using image software.

Or you could just print it out.  To be honest, once you've printed out a few pages, I think you'll get the hang of how the colour will translate to greyscale. In that case, I think I'm SOL until I get the hang of it.

Solve : Windows XP on slave Drive?

Answer» HI there,

I have searched for this elsewhere but my problem is slightley different.

My master HD has 3 o/s (home/pro and 98) and gives me the choice each time it boots. I want to start fresh but not lose the ability to access my current o/s until I am happy with my new o/s.

I have formatted my slave drive and begin the xp pro INSTALL. After the point where it checks my disks it says it need a reboot. at this point it reboots to my 3 choices on the master. I try it again and press f8 to choose where to boot from. Selecting the slave drive, but it dosent continue the install. Gives me a o/s is not loaded message.

How do I get xp pro on my slave drive?

I tried Partition magic and only installs a new os on my 1st (master) disk.

ideas please. Is this a real XP Pro disc and not used elsewhere?

I can't IMAGINE why someone would want to pay for 3 legal Microsoft products on the same machine.thats too many PROBLEMS waiting to happen

Solve : Internet suddenly very slow.?

Answer»

I have a broadband internet connection and I usually get speeds of 250+ kbps when downloading from most sites and I can usually get 3 or four downloads of 100kbps when using p2p networks. but all that changed a week ago suddenly im getting speeds of 20-50 downloading FRON sites and 80 at most downloading from p2p. my brother uses the same line and he is getting normal speeds on his bb modem. for about 20 mins last night my speeds went back to normal then died again.I have never had internet speed problems before and I dont see how my modem could be faulty as I havent mishandled it or messed with settings in any way RECENTLY. the only thing I have done recently to do with the internet is reset web settings in tools/internetoptions/programs/resetwebsettings as the last stage in manualy removing a virus. It is incredibly annoying having a broadband system with speeds of 50-80 max as my brother glaots about his speedy speeds =D. Any help or suggestions on this matter would be very welcome as I am at my wits end. Thank you for reading. RobertDunne......  So both you and your brother are connected through the same router ?  So it would appear the issue is not the modem or the router ......but rather something going on with your pc. Are you sure you have corrected the virus and or trojan issue ?

dl65  No myself and my brother use seperate routers, we just transfer the phone wire between them but i am still pretty sure it is not a router problem. And yes i am quite sure there are no viruses/trogans on my pc.I just realised  my last reply may have sounded a little blunt or snide so pease do not take offenseRobertDunne  ...Ok , I'll SIMPLY ignore your responses ...lol.....  Perhaps you could explain what you mean by...... "we just transfer the phone wire between them "  I must be missing something here ....... If you transfer the phone line ( are you saying you have 2 DSL modems as well as 2 routers ?  ) and if you do ....... WHY ?

dl65  They are dsl modems and routers in one. We were sent two free ones by the internet provider by mistake and as our house is very large and the rooms are very far apart we didnt have an ethernet cable long eough to connect the 2 computers so we just TOOK one of these modem/routers each and transfered the phone wire between them so as we dont have to bother finding a very long cable or buy a wireless card ect. But its irrelivant anyway as last night a swaped modems with my bother and the problem is still there. So it must be a settings or software problem?Perhaps they are modem routers?  I suggest swapping the routers over.  Then you will be able to tell for sure if the router is at fault.

Use an external bandwidth test for best results.Well, first of all, I don't know about viruses or trojans, but when internet is slow the first symptom is always spyware. Use a free spyware scanner such as Ad-Aware and Spybot, then be "quite sure" (lol) if you have no viruses.

As for the internet randomly dying, you can always ask your ISP and make sure first that it's not them! But try these GUYS' ideas first, their usually right.

Solve : backing up files on a CD?

Answer»

Hi
I am having trouble backing up my files to a CD-RW. I haven’t had this problem in the past. I would really appreciate any help you can give me. Here are the steps I followed before:

Put CD-RW in CD drive
Go to my computer
Press folder in the upper taskbar
Then on the right find what you want to BACK up
Then on the left, click with mouse and drag it to the drive E on the left
Then press the balloon at the bottom of taskbar
Then on the left click on WRITE THESE FILES TO CD.
When the back up is finished the CD with eject from the E drive.
The end

It was working so well. But now, when I try to follow these steps I get the following message:

E:\is not accessible
Incorrect function

I tried putting a music CD in E drive and it plays PERFECTLY. I have a small business and I really need to back up these files. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Kathy
 When did this problem start?
What happened immediately prior to the problem?
Specs for the PC?
Specs for the CD-RW drive?
If the files are important use a cd-r.

Anyway, I had this problem recently and try right click and "Erase all files on cd" or similar and then try to write the files again.Sorry I use Windows XP and the drive is a DVD drive. I really don't know what happened and I am a computer dummy so be patient with me

Solve : need help with displays and monitor on Windows XP?

Answer»

Thanks for taking the time to help consider my problem all of you forum jumpers I am relatively new to computers and so when I reinstalled windows Xp home edition on a Dell OptiPlex Gxa (if that means anything to you) and when I finally got everything straightened up my display was only 640 x 480 pixels which means that I am UNABLE to play games on my computer but I thought just simply switching it would help but when I switch to 600 by 800 the display goes off the screen so I cant see my taskbar, then I cant get back to 640 by 480 so I have been using system RESTORE to return it, if you know how to fix this please drp me a reply it gets very frusterating :-? it also says I have the default monitor which isnt true, I have a NEC multiSyncXV17+ monitor, once again any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

What video adapter is in there? (Look in the BIOS to see.) Compare that to what is shown in Windows. (Right click on desktop and choose Properties. It is in the same place where you change the resolution under Adapter. Dell does not list an XP driver for the GXa so it may just be making a closest guess at the display resolution, etc.

It seems like they used the RagePro chip on all of these Optiplex models, but I thinkit was only a 2 meg. video MEMORY model. That will affect the possibilities a lot.  Later Optiplexes (the GX1) with a 4 meg. chip have no problem with XP.

You may want a different video card (PCI is your only choice, and it will automatically disable the onboard) if you plan to use this machine. It cannot be state of the art, obviously, as that chassis either has a 145 or 200w power supply, depending on the chassis.

That was a NICE NEC monitor in it's day, but it seems that it had it's own .INF file required for full effect.

Do you have a different monitor to check on this machine, and then check this monitor on another machine?

So we'll wait for a reply to these issues.

Thank you very much for your help so far, I switched monitors whith the one on the computer I am currently using ( another Dell Optiplex) and its monitor is a View Sonic 17 GA and it gave me the same problem, I also noticed that on startup the screen says everything it normally should but after a breif pause (8-10 seconds) a message pops up that says Diskette Drive 1 seek failure, would this cause my display problem?  I checked Windows under the advanced section in settings and it says all the adapter INFORMATION is unavailable, and when I click porperties under the adapter tab it says Vga save but everything else in unknown although it says it is working properly
thanks for your helpThe Drive failure message is limited to the floppy drive, and may be caused  by old dead drive, dirty read/write head, bad cable or bad connection. If it doesn't work, try unplugging and replugging everything it to the drive and the motherboard  If you use it a lot, it is time to replace. There is no connecttion to the monitor issue.

If the video adapter is only shown as VGA only, then you need to install the correct driver.

Here is what you need:

http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=45154

You need to register but it is quick, painless and free.

I have an Optiplex (GX1) with an older Viewsonic E773  and it works fine. After you install the drivere you need to adjust the resolution to however you want.

Alan <><  ok...sounds good...I guess i dont need to create  template or anything huh?A few options.

1. Create a new mail to the SENDER with subject and recipient set up.  Save and close.  It will now be in your Drafts folder.  Use cut and paste to create multiple copies of that email, so you have several in your Drafts folder.  You can then use one up each time you send the email.

2. Create a little web page, which contains a "mailto:" link, that incorporates subject and recipient.

3. Create a macro that sends the email; then create a button on your toolbar to run the macro. Quote

3. Create a macro that sends the email; then create a button on your toolbar to run the macro.

i tried number 1 but when I clicked save, it DISAPPEARED..I check the draft folders and it was not there....I tried #3 and the system told me I had to run visual basic editor to create a macro for it.

Solve : PC woun't start?

Answer» HI,

I have this PC, a eMachine T1840. For some reasons it just REFUSES to start. When I try to boot it up, it will have TWO beeps, then it just shuts itself off no matter how many times I push the power button. If I unplug it for a period of time like 10-15 minutes, it will start again and the same thing happens. I suspect it's the power supply box so I used a power supply that I know is good, it still does the same thing, so I guess it's not the power supply causes the problem. What else could be wrong? BTW, it runs Windows Home edition.

Any helps will be grateful.

MacPCMac:

If your PC has an AMI BIOS, two SHORT beeps means a problem with the RAM memory modules.

Try turning off the PC and removing all of them and replacing just one (it must be one with at least 64 MB).  Restart Windows XP in safe mode.  If the PC boots without a problem, try turning off the PC and replacing the second RAM stick, and booting to Safe Mode again.  If the PC starts without error, try replacing the third RAM stick, and so on.

When you reproduce the audio beep code, you have found the bad RAM stick, which you should replace with one that is the same kind as the ones that work.

DocSorry, please disregard the last post, I didn't make myself too clear. I should said that when I turn one the PC, it will start in saft mode, I entered Start Windows Normally, just when it gets to the Window LOGO with the progress bar, it shuts itself off except the floppy drive making a clicking noise. I can't turn the power off by using the power button. The only way to shut it off is to unplug the power cord.  Then after I wait for 10 to 15 minute, I turn it on again and the same sequence happens. I am pretty sure it's not the power supply because I swapped a known good power supply and it still does the same thing. What else could be wrong? The PC is a eMachine T1840 and running Windows XP Home. And also the two beeps are gong.

Thanks again.

MacPCIs it an external floppy drive plugged into a USB port?

Thanks for the reply. It's a internal FD. It's weird, now it doesn't even get as far as the Windows logo. The CPU fan comes on for a few seconds then it just shuts down, leave the FD making the clicking noise.  :-? Quote

Your statement is ambiguous.  To clarify, do you mean you can get to the Windows desktop in Safe Mode but not if you choose to boot normally on the Windows boot menu?

Hi PCDoc

This PC is really fulky, I took the whole thing apart and found out the motherboard is kaput. I connected the bare bone MB to a known power supply and it still does the same thing, so I guess it's RIP   . Oh well, thanks for trying to help anyway.

Totally off-topic, but SAVIOUR, I was WONDERING why someone from the U.S. would CONSISTENTLY spell "Saviour" with a 'u'?  Not that I disapprove - on the contrary!

I actually don't spell it that way all the time...knowing, with the "u", it's the British EQUIVALENT of the "Yank's" "Savior".

Wanted the domain name "SaveYourPC.com"...taken..."SaviorPC.com"...taken...therefore...what you see is what you get.

Solve : control panel intel resources not availabile?

Answer»

hi i have a dell lappie and when i GO to control panel i get an message saying intel pro set resources not availabile.(xp)

any ideas?

Any more INFO?Argh.  Not another "lappie".

Reinstall the drivers/apps for your network card/onboard LAN.  You can download these from Dell's web site.If you can't FIND the info on the Dell site, post your service tag number here and we will assist.

You can find it in the BIOS (F2 when you see the Dell logo).
