Solve : "Send To..." problem? |
Answer» Hi all. I use win98se.Well that was a waste of 12 hours for you to get more responses wasn't it. This could be related to your mouse problem. Is your computer free of VIRUSES and spyware. Quote This could be related to your mouse problem.:-? :-? :-? Actually, the mouse problem is about one YEAR old. The "Send To..." problem is just recent. Quote Is your computer free of viruses and spyware. She's squeeky clean 8-) I got the vb SCRIPT from kellys-korner, and I'll try it on a bit later. It's for XP, but it might still work [fingers crossed ]I wouldn't use the XP script. Is your windows uptodate? Quote I wouldn't use the XP script.I'll look at it. Maybe it's tweakable If not, then maybe there will be one for 98 around, somewheres. I didn't know there were such things as vb scripts to "fix" things. Quote Is your windows uptodate?Should be.How long since you reinstalled Windows? It might just be time to solve all problems this way. Can you create shortcuts in other folders or on your desktop? If you can, create the shortcut you want there, then copy and paste it into the "SendTo" folder. I assume you're creating a shortcut to an application and not to a folder. RickDarn it! We must be telepathic Telepathic? Not that I know of. Did it work? Quote Telepathic? Not that I know of.We both wrote about the same thing at the same time. But your post showed up just before mine. When I clicked the "Post" button and saw your post and mine SAYING the same thing, I edited mine by erasing it and then I wrote the little joke about our telepathy Dragging the exe file to the SendTo folder does create a shortcut. It's not a fix to the problem, but it will do for now |

Solve : Been registry diving, have the bends, please help? |
Answer» ok ok ok I KNOW, BUT I went in to take out a couple of listings in the Add/Remove menu that wern't going away (done it before, no probs) BUT the reg's were for Black & White (the game) aaand wound up deleting a reg' listing for my favorites folder (ie the reg listing for the games website). It says 'Registry Data Missing' when windows XP launches to desktop. Mud - thanks for coming back. The OP indicated he was running XP - I thought you had discovered a NEW option in XP where the only options I get are "Standby" "Turn off" and "Restart" (XP Home) - As you will know XP does not run over Dos so the option to restart in Dos mode would be most peculiar. Quote All I did was ask for help. Did neither System Restore nor Last Good Config help you??? Nope. It's not actualy effecting anything (yet). My annoyance here is part my somehow expecting you to know I've just finnished my third 12 hour shift in an old folks home and part SOME of you for being snotty gits. We're not all computer experts. The sys restore didn't seem to work simple said couldn't restore to point, whatever, it didn't work. I will return when I've had some kip and in a less foul mood.Maybe there should be a forum specific to Windows XP. Sorry I couldn't help. |

Solve : Startup crash?? |
Answer» I recently uninstalled my Norton Systemworks 2005 to install the 2006 edition. After I uninstalled, it prompted me to restart my computer before I could install the new one. I restarted, but every time I get to my desktop/password prompt screen, I get a quick flash of the blue screen of death and my computer restarts itself. The only way I am ABLE to log on is by starting in safe mode. I have TRIED LOOKING at all of my startup programs to see if maybe one of those is CAUSING my system to crash, but I am unsure. |

Solve : Enternet error? |
Answer» While teaching a student a musical program on her computer I received this error: "Enternet has caused an error in KRNL386.exe." and the computer froze. She TOLD me that her computer does this about once per day. She's running WinME on a DELL computer with 128mb RAM. I didn't have too much time to check anything else. I've never seen an Enternet error before. Does ANYONE know what this is and why it's happening? ThanksI'm not quite sure, but I can OFFER one piece of advice... Get rid of ME... It's terribly bugged. Thanks for the advice. I never knew that about ME. I won't get my hands on the computer for about twenty days while she's gone to Europe.Well, if I were you... While she's gone, I'd try to get my hands on a different OS, such as XP or maybe even 98 (if it gets down to that). Quote Well, if I were you... While she's gone, I'd try to get my hands on a different OS, such as XP or maybe even 98 (if it gets down to that). Recommending XP for a computer with 128 meg RAM is just BAD advice! WinME is doable, especially if it used to work on that machine. It probably has one or more corrupted files, and a lot of crud, and may be the originakl OS installation from when that computer was new. Backing up data and reinstalling the operating system makes a LOT more sense. |

Solve : Mouse pointer problem? |
Answer» When I bring up many sub-context menus, like from the Start button, then Programs, and so on..., my mouse pointer drops to the bottom of the screen, and won't go more than an inch above the taskbar. Have you tried reducing hardware accelleration?I'm a bit reluctant to do this SINCE it was ok for a long time on the "full" setting. Quote IMO a corded PS2 mouse is the most reliable of all.I agree. Quote BTW, is your computer free of viruses and spyware? Yep! No problem there. AdAware. Spybot. Anti-virus GALORE, etc... This problem is strictly related to an excessive number of context menus showing up on the screen at one and the same time. It's the only time the problem happens. It's a bloody mind bender this one If there are so many items in start/programs that is clutters the screen and makes it hard to navigate, you can combine several items under one menu listing with its own sub menus. In windows explorer navigate to window/start menu/programs. In the right pane, right click and select new/folder. Name it something like cleanup then drag and drop all the cleanup items to it. Do the same with all your utilites. Items that have a plus sign should not be EXPANDED but the entire item dropped into the desired folder. After doing this, REBOOT and new folders should appear under start/programs with their own sub menus. Thanks! Good idea, but what I'd really like is to just be able to use my mouse the way I could before the problem. I would try a known working, corded PS2 mouse after deleting all the mouse entries from the Device Manager and rebooting.Have you used any utilities that could have removed some necessary registry entries. If so, boot to DOS - commant prompt only and run scanreg/restore. |

Answer» For some reason Serive Pack 2 will NOT download on my computer. I get the notice that says I have updates available and I click it and go to download it and in the middle of it I get an error. It happens all the time, I've never been able to download it. Anyone know why this happens and what I can do to fix it? Windows XP Serice Pack cannot install. What part of that sentence do you not understand? Do you have the product key? Is that Windows that you're using installed on any other computer? Did you buy the computer new with Win XP pre-installed, or did you install Win XP on a computer that originally had a older OS? Armando..... Quote Windows XP Serice Pack cannot install....... Well , perhaps your legal product key has been used too many times recently ....... I would suggest a PHONE call to MicroSoft and if in fact you have a valid key , they will give you a new number ........BTW ...what message did you get when you visited the how to tell page ? dl65 soybean, I understand the whole sentence, thank you very much. The CD (to the best of my knowledge) has been used on two computers, my moms laptop and my desktop. I don't see why it shouldn't be valid.Armando..... Quote The CD (to the best of my knowledge) has been used on two computers, my moms laptop and my desktop. I don't see why it shouldn't be valid. Please READ the license AGREEMENT for Win XP ........ Unless it's changed .......you are allowed to load XP onto........... one .......ONE ........... machine ........ Not one laptop and one desktop ....thats two ......2 ....... I suspect thats the problem ........but a phone call to MicroSoft should resolve this .
