19.In Arithmetic progression, if an = 6n + 2, then find the common difference.a) 0b) 4d) 12

Answer»

n’th term of an AP is a + (n-1)d and is given to be 6n+2

So,

a + (n-1)d = 6n+ 2

ie (a-d) + nd = 6n+2

In the above equation, compare the coefficient of n on both sides, ie , dn = 6n, so d= 6.

With d known, compare the constant terms on both sides, ie, a-d = 2, but d being 6, a-6 = 2 . Hence a = 6+2 = 8
