1.

A sound wave is passing through air column in the form of compression and rarefaction. In consecutive compressions and rarefactions.

Answer»

(a)denisty remains CONSTANT.
(b) Boyle's law is OBEYED.
(c) bulk modulus of air oscillates.
(d) there is no transfer of heat.

Solution :During the propagation of sound in air, condensations take place at a given positon, rapidly and periodically. Hence, what ever AMOUNT of heat is generated at agiven POSTION in air medium, same amount of heat is absorbed there only when rarefaction takes place at the same position after half PERIOD `T/2.` Thus, there is no transfer of heat and hence this process can be taken as adiabatic.
