Answer» define sublimation ?Sublimation is the transition of a substance directly from the solid to the gas state, WITHOUT passing through the liquid state. The reverse process of sublimation is deposition or desublimation, in which a substance PASSES directly from a gas to a solid PHASE.To sublimate is to change the form, but not the ESSENCE. Physically speaking, it means to transform solid to vapor; psychologically, it means changing the outlet, or means, of expression from SOMETHING base and inappropriate to something more positive or acceptable. Sublimation, including melting, freezing, and evaporation, is a form of phase transition, or shift in a state of matter. A substance transforms from a solid to a gas by sublimation without ever going through a liquid phase. A common example of sublimation is the dry ice, heavy CO2. |
