1.

Differentiate between aerobic and anaerobic respiration.

Answer»

1. Aerobic respiration:

  • oxygen is used to break down organic CO2 and H2
  • Large amount of energy is liberated
  • Occurs in higher Forms of organisms
  • Glucose + Oxygen —+ Carbon dioxide + water + energy.
  • C6H2O6 + O2→ 6CO2+ 6H2O+ H2O + Energy.

2. Anaerobic respiration:

  • organic compounds are broken in the absence of oxygen, producing alcohol and CO
  • Small amount of energy is liberated.
  • occurs in lower Forms of organisms.
  • Glucose + Ethos Alcohol + Carbon dioxide + Energy
  • C6H2O6→ 2C2H5OH + 2CO2 + Energy.
