Question : Respiratorypathway is believedto be a catabolic pathway. However, nature of TCA cycle is amphibolic . Explain.

Answer»

Solution :In living ORGANISMS energy is formed during respiration which is built in the form of ATPat the end of break down of substances like glucose and fats.
The beginingof thisprocess is done in cytoplasm with glycolysis. In whichPyruvicacid is formed that is converted into acetyl CoAlater. Whichenters in stoma of mitochondria. So TCAcycle keepsgoing.
This CYCLE is called amphibolic pathwaybecause many INTER mediate substances are made which are useful for other processes. eg. coenzymes, vitamins,Hormones,More over fatty ACID. Amino acid etc.
Fatty acidsteroides, carotionides, Turpenis and Aromaticmaterials are made from acetyl CoA.
alpha` - ketoglutarate and oxalo ACETATE, amino acid are useful materials forglutamate and aspartate, Moreover from pyrimidinesand alkaloid succinile, cytochromeand chlorophyll aremade.
So in thiscyclebreak down and formation. both the processes occur in sequence. So it iscalled amphibolic pathway.
