Solve : cant log into my netgear router? |
|
Answer» wnr 1000 V2 netgear router set up and installed by comcast. just 1 host modem and router makes up lan network. i turned of wireless and conneted through a cat5 cable into a lan port and typed 191.168.1.1 in search and got a failed to connect to server message. I can ping my devices fine, my tcp/IP stack is not corrupted, my computer can find the network and i can access the internet. I tried disabeling both my firewalls and got the same message. I have the most current ipconfig imfo and i'm shure my default gateway is 191.168.1.1 even tried 0.1 and 10.1 for s and giggles. I just want to be able to log ing to my router to MAKE sure all is well and a reset wasnt performed. ANY help guys? thnaks for your time!Have you read what another Comcast said awhile back? ? Router NetGear WNR 150 1000v2You might want to read the rest. My point is that a user should not tinker with the Comcast setup unless it is really necessary. In most cases a power on serest of all parts of the network are needed. The Net-gear documentation can help. It is not always easy to log in with the IP address. The address may have changed. Check the documentation for the recommended log in procedure. http://support.netgear.com/ EDIT: The manual days: Quote You can enter either of these addresses to connect to your wireless router:Try it! Hey thanks Geek-9pm for the quick response. Yeah i was attmpting the log in using those METHODS. It wasnt until i powered off the router and restarted that it recognized the Ethernet cable. I wa sthan able to log with http://192.168.1.1. I enterd the default user name password (on the back of the router) and change my password/username, which was my first goal. It doesn't always work (log in) and now when i try to log back in to confirm changed my password DOESNT work, probally a typo. I just want to make sure that deafult log in has changed and sience admin/password (default)doesnt work i guess i did it right even if i cant recall what i changed the password too LOL right? What would be the technicall consequences of a reset? Again thankyou so much.Comcast may have set your router to a different MAC address or otherwise gave it a special something that identifies o Comcast. So a 'hard reset' will destroy any special settings. You need to find out from them. Also, the MTU may have been tweaked by them. Router password is not really needed. t is more important to have a secure tireless connection. Comcast MTU setting is 1500 i guess. Thanks for the imfo i'm glad i didnt jump the gun as i dont have my isp's imfo handy. Any tips on how i can help on this forum? I applyed at a malware removal school just waiting to hear back, i can start another thread if need be. Thanks again.Glad you got it under control/ I like your slogan: Quote "Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean I'm wrong!"Speaking of being paranoid, Did you see this lest yer? http://docs.lib.purdue.edu/cstech/1761/ PhishLive: A View of Phishing and Malware Attacks from an Edge RouterThanks for the link. The random generator teq to avoid data bases by malicious sites is used by viruses a lot to especially now. And theres got to be a connection between the persistent attack and embedded malware. I see various references to url in a malware stack which are probably already blacklisted but if the rouge program avoids detection trough random name and a stolen key it COULD sit on your system and receive updates. A virus 'Hot fix' if you will. Another thing i thought was interesting is that 87% of malicious strings and redirects began with an abnormal request. No w that gives some credence to the know your system and install a noisy firewall/online scanner mitigation teq. |
