Answer» I use remote desktop and VNC viewer at work to log into another computer at another site at work. These computers are used for a/c controls. Remote desktop responds better than VNC. I am wondering what the difference between the two is.VNC (Virtual Network Computing) is a 3rd party software that makes it possible to view and interact with a computer from any other computer or device connected to the internet.
Remote Desktop Connection is software package of Microsoft. It is a technology that ALLOWS you to sit at a computer (sometimes called the client computer) and connect to a remote computer (sometimes called the host computer) in a different location.
Try also you own Google search. RDP has the side effect of locking the WORKSTATION remotely - in other words, while you're viewing the screen remotely, a local user cannot view the same screen. VNC is great for remote support if you WANT to "see what the user sees".
RDP has some advanced features like connecting devices, audio and MAPPED drives between local and remote computers. VNC doesn't allow this natively (although some VNC client/servers have built on VNC to allow file transfer - e.g. TightVNC).
Later versions of RDP are pretty secure (which PREVIOUSLY couldn't be said) and RDP is generally much easier to set up than VNC, in Windows environments. VNC on the other hand is the better choice for cross-platform applications (Mac to Windows to Linux).
