Solve : goofy IP address?

Answer»

I cannot get on internet at home. MY ip address is

IP address ...... f80:: blah blah blah (dont remember the rest exactly )

does this mean anything to anybody?please post a copy of IPCONFIG /ALL if possible.mm..unfortunately i cant. im at work and the prob is with my home COMPUTER. but i can tell you it looked something like this:

IP......164.something
subnet mask....255.something
IP......f80::215 (or soemthing along those lines) and then a bunch more numbers
default gateway (dont remember...but i believe it matched the 164 from above)

i TALKED to three isp tech support folk, and they have no clue what the f80 means, or why its being causedI am thanking that you are looking at a truncated IPv6 address. when you post your ipconfig we will know more.

once you have a copy of your ipconfig you could try running the following command:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renewtried that at home and it was unable to doooh wait...i dont think i did /release i just did /renew

doh...hm.....dang it now i have to wait til i get home to try that.....sigh

and this is gonna bug me all day
so anyway...i'll try that when i get home, but...just in general...

if you see IP address.. f80:: blah blah blah

that doesnt INDICATE a specific cause to you?No. it just indicates a IPv6 IP address.

you need to find the other IP address entries.

One THING you can do is redirect ipconfig to a file:

Code: [Select]ipconfig > C:\ipout.txt

and then copy that files contents into your next post.blows my mind how 3 isp internet fios tech support people had no clue what that was ...even if they COULDNT resolve it....the had no clue what it was

This is IP version 6 (IPv6), not the IP version 4 (IPv4) you are talking about. IPv6 can handle more people at once. Enable IP version 6 by:
1. Right Clicking on the network icon
2. Click on Manage Network Connections
3. Right Click on your NIC and click on properties
4. Click on Install then Protocol and then IPv6
5. Check both IPv4 and IPv6
