Solve : LmCompatibilityLevel Didn't work?

Answer»

Heya,

So I'm connecting the 5th new Win 7 machine to our domain. Our DC is running Win S 2k I believe, so every other Win 7 machine I've SET up, I've had to set LmCompatibilityLevel to 1, and that has made it work fine. For some reason this time around it isn't working. I can access any of the servers, but not the subfolders (using explorer). Every sub-folder password prompts, which it isn't supposed to do once an authorized network user is logged in. Just to be safe, I tried this with several different user accounts including the net admin account, and not dice.

I did a bit of searching on the topic and found that there were many threads that did not resolve which were about this issue, so I'm still in need of a fix.

The machine is a slightly upgraded Dell Inspiron 530, and I just installed Win 7 Pro. (Only upgrade is to the HDDs and I think the GPU... but that may have been a factory upgrade.)

Anyway, if ANYONE has a clue how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated!!

I'll check back here periodically, although I'm in the CH chat channel a lot more often. We ran into this issue a few years ago with our Domain Controller and upgrading to Server 2003 was the fix. I wasnt aware of the Quote

For the FACT that the 5th is having issues, can you rebuild this system clean to VERIFY that there is not a problem with the Windows 7 workstation itself or join another system as the 5th to see if your dealing with an issue server side where the 5th is a problem.

Unfortunately I no longer have access to Windows 2000 Server to TEST from my end with some Windows 7 systems I have. Lost access for testing with Server 2000 OS when I switched jobs.

We also wanted to use RIS which changed to WDS for Windows 7 deployment and so we started upgrading to Server 2008 R2 shortly before I swicthed jobs for a better job with better pay and benefits.

If you can afford to, you may want to upgrade to server 2003 or 2008. Windows Server 2008 R2 with WDS is sweet and secure and worked well before I left.Sorry for the ridiculous lag Dave. We fixed it and I totally forgot about this thread. Lol!!

Anyway, I just had a trainee doing it and the put it in the wrong registry folder.

Thanks for your time and reply though!Cool to hear that you solved the issue
