Solve : WiFi discovered connections?

Answer»

Hello,
Is there a DOS command that will clear the WiFi cache?
I want to clear that record in the computer that displays the nearby WiFi connections.
This is the list presented when you click on the WiFi icon in the notification area.
I was not able to show them with:
netsh wlan show profiles
Also I could not find them in:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Wlansvc\Profiles\Interfaces\
or in the registry:
Hkey_Local_Machine/Software/Microsoft/WindowsNT/CurrentVersion/Networklists/Profiles
I understand that some new WiFi locations will be discovered by the computer WIRELESS WLAN receiver.
I would like to clear those that are now being displayed.
ASUS Laptop with Windows 8 Pro.
ActionTec  MI424WR router
Thanks

[recovering disk space, attachment deleted by admin]Windows 8 removed too much functionality (IMO) and some commands like those got the axe.

THe only real method I have found:
Ctrl+C
Settings and then choose the Wireless icon.
Right-click on the network and choose FORGET this Network. Thanks for the reply Chrisxs5,
I had tried your suggestion. The only connection that gives me the option to "Forget this network" is my main local network ZFHL2. This is the one that I must keep. The others (screen shot) do not display any options upon right click. That is why I was wondering if there was a DOS cmd to do the job.
This information must be some where or there must be a way to stop the WLAN receiver from searching but I can't find it.
FRANK CI've been trying to find out how to do this FOREVER.  Your post reminded me to look again & I found a solution for Windows 7.
In "Network & Sharing Center", click on icon below (Unless you have changed it.  Probably not, because that's where you get rid of the names.)
Within:  Set Network Properties
Click:  Merge or Delete Network Locations.

My list contains items from when I got the laptop, 2 years ago.

In the pic you provided, that's the list of wireless networks it sees at the moment.

For Windows 8:

[recovering disk space, attachment deleted by admin]Thanks for the reply Commando,
I had looked at the windows 8 link that you supplied.
I tried the following in the cmd prompt without success.
Show non present devices
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

Show
netsh wlan show profiles
I only showed ZFHL2

Delete
netsh wlan delete profile name="TRENDnet"
It was not found

TRENDnet is persistent it remains in the list
 The others come and go
Frank CThis works for some & not for others:  http://www.thewindowsclub.com/wifi-profile-manager-windows-8

It seems if the network is not within range, it can't be deleted.  Why MS removed this feature from Win7 to Win8 is a mystery.  Maybe it will be re-enabled in Win8.1, soon to be released. Thanks for the response Commando,
I did try the WiFi Profile Manager 8  with unsatisfactory results. It only showed ZFHL2. I thought that it would show TRENDnet since that one is persistent.
I keep trying, with diminishing hope, for a solution.
Frank CIt's likely that the TRENDnet is a wireless router within range of your computer.  The exclamation mark next to it, means it is not secure & you could connect to it.  If you connect to it, then you might be able to delete the profile.  But why bother, you might need it if you have a problems with yours.TRENDnet concerned me because I found this online:
http://www.networkworld.com/community/blog/unpatched-trendnet-ip-cameras-still-provide-real-time-peeping-tom-paradise
That is the main REASON that I wanted to remove it.I had tried that those same features as well without luck also. I will have to gove it another test win I upgrade to 8.1 as well. And everything Microsoft does is a mystery to me. Quote from: FrankGC on October 05, 2013, 08:32:53 PM

It's only an issue if the TRENDnet camera belongs to you & is one of the affected ones.  Removing it from your list does not make it secure. Thanks Commando,
I will quit worrying about TRENDnet, I would still like to get rid of it.
Frank CAll that your computer is doing is listing all wireless networks that are available in its range and is completely normal operation.  Just because the network is within range doesn't mean that you are in any way vulnerable, just don't connect to the other networks.  All that it means when a network is displayed in that list is that the computer is within the range of it, if you went elsewhere and looked you would have a different set of networks - Only connect to the one you own and you won't have problems!

There is nothing to worry about with TrendNet cameras unless you own it yourself, besides, chances are that that TrendNet device is not a camera and in fact just your neighbour's wireless router (TrendNet make them too).

It is theoretically possible to stop the WiFi card scanning for networks but this varies depending on the card in use and there is absolutely no benefit from doing this, if anything it makes it more difficult if you need to connect to a different network in the future. Thanks camerongray.
I think we should close this discussion and chalk it up to my education. I did learn a lot.
