Answer»

(c)The experiment to demonstrate that oxygen is released during photosynthesis is discussed below:

The diagram illustrating the experiment to show that oxygen is liberated during the process of photosynthesis as a bye-product.

Aim:The aim of the experiment is to show that oxygen is released by green plants during the process of photosynthesis.

Apparatus:The apparatus to be used are 2 beakers, two funnels, two test tubes, water plant (Elodea).

Method —the two beakers are filled with water and the water plant (elodea) is placed in beaker A and B. A glass funnel is turned upside down in the beaker in such a way that it covers the water plant. Turn a test tube with water upside down over the stalk of the funnel.

Experiment A is left exposed to sunlight while experiment B is covered with a cardboard paper or left to stay in the dark. The two experiments are left for some time to allow the observation to be made.

Observation:

Bubbles of gas are seen or observed in experiment A. When the expelled gas is tested with a glowing splint, it rekindles the glowing splint, confirming that the expelled gas is oxygen. There is no such observation of the discharge of bubbles of gas in experiment B.

Conclusion:

The observation in experiment air and the rekindling of the glowing splint by the gas expelled shows that oxygen is given out during the process of photosynthesis.
