why concentrated sulphuric acid is not used in the preparation of hydrogen peroxide? write appropriate reaction reaction. |
|
Answer» Dilute sulphuric ACID will react to PRODUCE hydrogen gas. Increasing the concentration will increase the rate of REACTION. Since the product is in another PHASE (hydrogen is a gas) too rapid a reaction brings a risk of overpressurization and explosion. It is important that the hydrogen PEROXIDE solution is acidic. The hydrogen ions take part in the reaction as a reactant. It is also important to use sulfuric acid and not hydrochloric acid because the permanganate is such a powerful oxidant, it would oxidize chloride ions to form chlorine. |
