Answer»

NG THE ACTIVITY FIRST WE NEED TO KNOW THAT , WHAT IS PERCOLATION RATE ?Percolation rate: The amount of water that seeps through a soil sample in a GIVEN time is called its percolation rate ._________________________To show the percolation rate of water in different SOILS or for the given soil sample. soil sample , stop watch , 100ml of water(amount can VARY) • Take the soil sample in a beaker and add 100ml of water. • As the water seeps down from the soil sample note the time taken. Note the time till the water seeps down in the given soil sample. (Reason : Due to water holding capacity between the intermolecular space, the water takes time to seep down )Confused ? Never Mind .. let's take an exampleQuestion - a CERTAIN sample took 30 minutes for 300 mL to percolate. Find its percolation rate . = 10 ml / min• The calculation can be done according to the noted reading confirms the percolation rate of the soil sample. • The unit of percolation rate will be in ml/min. • Sandy soil has highest rate of percolation of water and least water holding capacity. • Clayey soil has least percolation rate and highest water holding capacity. • Loamy soil has the percolation rate in between Sandy soil and Clayey soil with right amount of water holding capacity.
