0.5. What is the benefit of residual volume of air inthe respiratory process?[DDE 2017] |
Answer» Hello buddy.. 1. The lungs always contain a residual volume of air so that during breathing cycle there is sufficient time for oxygen to be absorbed and for the carbon dioxide to be released. 2. Residual volume is important because it prevents the lungs from collapsing. It’s true the residual volumehelps prevent the collapse of the alveoli. But keeping the alveoli open at all times is beneficial because of the gas exchange that occurs continuously. It’s important in a well run respiratory system that the ventilation V (inspired air) matches perfusion Q (blood flow). When we breath in and out the lungs always contain air . so that there is sufficient time for oxygen to be absorbed and for the carbon dioxide to be released . This volume is called as residual volume. |
