Be has exceptionally small atomic and ionic size, it has high ionisation enthalpy, it cannot exhibit coordination number more than four as in its valence shell there are only four orbitals. There are no d-orbitals. 2. (i) Both Be and Al are not readily attacked by acids because of the presence of an oxide film on the surface of the metal. (ii) The chlorides of both Be and Al have Cl bridged chloride structure in vapour phase. |
