200 centimetre cube of carbon dioxide is mixed with 200 centimetre of oxygen at room temperature and ignited calculate the volume carbon dioxide formed on cooling to room temperature what other gases if any may also be present

Answer»

volume of CARBON dioxide is 200cm³ and volume of OXYGEN is 100cm³

it is given that 200 cm³ of CO is mixed with 200 cm³ of oxygen at room temperature and ignited.

we have to calculate the volume CO₂ formed on cooling to room temperature what other gases if any may ALSO be present.

reaction of carbon MONOXIDE REACTS with oxygen is ....

2CO + O₂ ⇔2CO₂

here it is clear that 2 moles of CO combined with 1 mole of oxygen to form 2 moles of carbon dioxide.

so, 200 cm³ CO combined with 100 cm³ of oxygen to form 200 cm³ carbon dioxide.

and hence, left over oxygen = 200 cm³ - 100 cm³ = 100 cm³
