Substitute x = 100 in (1), we get 3x + 2y = 700 3(100) + 2y = 700 300 + 2y = 700 2y = 700 - 300 2y = 400 y = 400/2 y = 200. Therefore the cost of 2 chairs = 2 * 100 = 200 rupees. Therefore the cost of 2 tables = 2 * 200 = 400 rupees. Verification: 3x + 2y = 700 3(100) + 2(200) = 700 300 + 400 = 700 700 = 700. 5x + 3y = 1100 5(100) + 3(200) = 1100 500 + 600 = 1100 1100 = 1100.
