A cylindrical tube open at both ends is made of iron 3 cm thick. If the external diameter is 42 cm and length is 140 cm .Find the volumn of metal used in it.

Answer»

Given, thickness of iron =3cm external diameter = 42cm Length of tube = 140cmWe know, volume of hollow cylinder = πh(R²−r²)∴ internal diameter = external diameter−2×thickness of iron= 42−2×3 = 42−6 = 36cm

=> Outer radius(R) = 42÷2 = 21cm inner radius(r) = 36÷2 = 18cm∴ Volume of hollow cylinder = πh(R²−r²) = 3.14×140(21²−18²) = 3.14×140×117 = 51433.2 cm³
