1.

(a) Heat of adsorption is greater for chemisorption than for physisorption. Why?(b) Mention two common properties of sol and emulsions(c) Differentiate between electrophoresis and electro osmosis

Answer»

(a) Due to the formation of chemical bonds between adsorbate and adsorbent in case of chemisorptions

(b) Brownian movement and Tyndall effect

(c) The movement of colloidal particles under an applied electrical potential is electrophoresis. When electrophoresis of dispersed particle in a colloidal system is prevented by some suitable means, it is observed that dispersion medium itself begins to move in an electric field. This phenomenon is known as electro osmosis.
