1.

A house has three tubelights, two fans and a television. Each tubelight draws 40W. The fan draws 80W and the television draws 60W.On the average, all the tubelights are kept on for five hours, two fans for 12 hours and the television for five hours every day. Find the cost of electric energy used in 30 days at the rate of Rs. 3.00 per KWH.

Answer»

Power consumption by tube lights in a day = 40 W × 3 × 5H = 600 WH

Power consumption by fans in a day = 80W × 2 ×12 H = 1,920 WH

Power consumption by television in a day = 60W × 1 × 5H = 300 WH

Total power consumption in a day = 600 + 1,920 + 300 = 2,820 WH

Power consumption for 30 days = 2,820 × 30 = 84,600 WH = (84,600/1,000 )= 84.6 KWH

Rate of 1 KWH = Rs 3

∴ Cost of electrical energy used = 84.6 × 3 = Rs. 253.8.
