Answer» Correct Answer - Option 3 : 40 kg

The total amount of rice = 120 kg

He sells a part of it at a profit of 10 %, let this part is ‘x’ kg.

He sells the rest at a profit of 25%, i.e. he sells (120 – x) at 25%

He gains a profit of 15% on the whole.

Let the cost price is = y

⇒ 1.1 xy + 1.25 (120 – x)y = 1.15 × 120 y

⇒ 1.1 x + 1.25 (120 – x) = 1.15 × 120

⇒ 1.1x + 150 – 1.25 x = 138

⇒ 0.15 x = 12

⇒ x = 80 kg

The quantity of rice sold at a profit at 25% = 120 – x = 40 kg
