1.

A mixture contains water and solution in the ratio of 2 : 3. When 30 litres of mixture is replaced by water then concentration of water becomes 58%. Find the difference between the quantity of water and solution after replacement.1. 24 litres2. 16 litres3. 10 litres4. 18 litres5. 20 litres

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 2 : 16 litres

Given:

Let quantity of water and solution be 2a litres and 3a litres respectively.

⇒ Quantity of water after replacement = 2a - 30 × 2/5 + 30 = 2a + 18

⇒ Quantity of solution after replacement = 3a - 30 × 3/5 = 3a - 18

Total quantity of mixture after replacement = 2a + 18 + 3a - 18 = 5a litres

Then,

⇒ (2a + 18)/5a × 100 = 58

⇒ 40a + 360 = 58a

⇒ a = 20

∴ Required difference = (2a + 18) - (3a - 18) = 16 litres
