Answer» (a) Heroin is obtained from Papaver somniferum, commonly known as poppy plant. Chemically, it is diacetylmorphine and produced by acetylation of morphine. It is the morphine which is extracted from the latex of poppy plant, which then undergoes acetylation to form heroin. (b) Heroin acts as a depressant and slows down body functions. It can lead to slower rates of breathing, slower heart beats, vomiting, nausea etc. It impairs the ability of brain to function and hampers the thinking process. |
