Let the required number be x.Then,

= x + (x/2) = 72

= (2x + x)/ 2 = 72

= 3x/2 = 72

Multiplying both side by (2)

= (3x/2) × (2) = 72 × 2

= 3x = 144

Again, multiplying both side by (1/3)

= 3x × (1/3) = 144 × (1/3)

= x = 48

∴ The required number is 48
