A pipe which is open at both ends is 47 cm long and has an inner diameter of 5 cm. If the speed of sound in air is 348 m/s, calculate the fundamental frequency of the air column in that pipe. |

Answer» Data : l = 47 cm = 0.47 m, d = 5 cm = 0.05 m, v = 348 m/s e = 0.3 d = 0.3 × 0.05 = 0.015 m As the tube is open at both ends, the corrected length (L) is L = l + 2e = 0.47 + (2 × 0.015) = 0.5 m ∴ The fundamental frequency of the air column is n = \(\frac v{4L}\) = \(\frac{348}{2\times0.5}\) = 348 Hz |
