A rabbit runs up to 6 km at a speed of 3 km/h. At what speed during the next 3 hours will the rabbit need to run so that its average speed is 6 km/h for the entire distance covered by it?1. 12.5 km/h2. 14 km/h3. 1 km/h4. 8 km/h

Answer» Correct Answer - Option 4 : 8 km/h

Given:

A rabbit runs 6 km at a speed of 3km/h

Average speed of the entire distance covered = 6 km/h

Formula Used:

Average Speed = Total Distance/ Total Time

Calculation:

Let the speed of the rabbit be S km/h for next 3 hours

Distance covered in 3 hours = 3 × S km

⇒ 3S km

Time taken to cover 6 km at a speed of 3km/h = 6/3

⇒ 2 hours

Average speed = (6 + 3S)/(2 + 3)

⇒ (6 + 3S)/5 = 6

⇒ 3S = 30 – 6 km/h

⇒ S = 24/3 km/h

⇒ S = 8 km/h

∴ The speed of the rabbit is 8 km/h for next 3 hours so that average speed is 6 km/h through out the journey.
