A sonar sends ultrasonic vibrations in a sea, after striking the sea bed these are reflected upward and are picked up after 2.4 seconds from the sending time. if the speed of sound in water is 1600m/s then calculate the depth of the sea.please answer those who know this. and answer properly..... |

Answer» Given - Time - 2.4 seconds Speed - 1600 m/s Find - Depth of the sea. Solution - Sonar is based on ECHO. Thus, it CALCULATES the DISTANCE between the two objects namely source of sound and the place where sound hits. The formula for calculation is - V = 2d/t. In the formula, v is speed of sound, d is distance between source of sound and place and t refers to time. Keeping the values in equation- 2d = V*t 2d = 1600*2.4 D = 80*24 D = 1920 metre. Hence, the depth of sea is 1920 metres or 1.9 kilometres. |
