a. What is the difference in the atomicmodels of Thomson and Rutherford? |
Answer»
1. On one hand, Thomson's Model emphasised on the uniform distribution of mass and within an atom, Rutherford's model gave the concept of the mass being concentrated in a centrally located region, called nucleus.

2. Thomson's Model depicted electrons as being stationary and embedded within the positive sphere. Rutherford stated that Electrons move around the nucleus and are in motion.

3. Where on one hand Thomson's model was relatively stable, Rutherford proposed a very unstable model of an atom, as electrons would radiate energy when in motion, and ultimately fall into the nucleus.
| |
