(a). Write the basic nuclear process involved in the emission of β+ in a symbolic form, by a radioactive nucleus. (b).In the reactions given below : (i). \(^{11}_6C\) → \(^{Z}_YB\) + x + v(ii). \(^{12}_6C\) + \(^{12}_6B\) → \(^{20}_aNe\) + \(^{c}_bHe\) Find the values of z, y and x and a, b& c. |

Answer» (a) For beta plus decay, A proton transforms into a neutron within the nucleus, according to : P → n + e+ + v; v = neutrino Example of B+ decay : \(_{11}Na^{22}\) → \(_{10}Ne^{22}\) + e+ + v Infect, Lighter radioactive isotopes with Z < 70 decay mostly by beta plus decay. (b) (i). \(^{11}_6C\) → \(^{Z}_YB\) + x + v x : positron ⇒ +1e0 ∴ Y = 5, Z = 1 (ii). \(^{12}_6C\) + \(^{12}_6B\) → \(^{20}_aNe\) + \(^{c}_bHe\) b = 2, c = 4 a = 10 |
