1.

Acid rain is known to contain some acids. Name these acids. From where do they come in rain?

Answer»

Acid rain contains acids such as HNO3, H2SO4 and H2CO3 (along with small amount of HCl). HNO3 is formed by the oxidation of NO present in air to NO2 and NO3 and subsequent dissolution in water. H2SO4 is formed by the oxidation of SO2 present in air to SO3 and subsequent dissolution in water, H2CO3 is formed by the dissolution of CO2 of the air in water.
