Answer» Though Al and Mg are iso electronic but Al loses 3 electrons to be Al ion whereas Mg loses 2 electrons to be Mg ion..so Al ion has+3 charge and Mg has +2..and more is the charge on cation,smaller is its size..Hope it helps
