An aqueous solution of `CuSO_(4)` is acidic while that of `Na_(2)SO_(4)` is neutral. Explain. |
Answer» `CuSO_(4)` is a salt of weak base and strong acid. Upon hydrolysis it will form a weak base and strong acid. This means that the solution contains free`H^(+)` ions and will be therefore acidic in nature. But `Na_(2)SO_(4)` is a salt of strong base and strong acid. Although it dissolves in water but will not undergo any hydrolysis . The solution will be therefore neutral. `CuSO_(4) +2H_(2)O to Cu(OH)_(2) + H_(2) SO_(4)` (weak ) (Strong) |
