An electric oven of 2kW power rating is operated in a domestic electric circuit (220V) that has a current rating of 5A. What result do you expect? Explain. |
|
Answer» Given: Power = 2kW = 2000W Current = 5A Voltage = 220V ∴ Power = Current x Voltage ⇒ Current = \(\frac{Power}{Voltage}\) = \(\frac{2000}{220}\) = 9 A Thus, the current exceeds the current rating of 5A. Therefore, either the fuse will burn out and if there is no fuse, then overloading will cause melting of wires which may result in short-circuiting or a fire. |
