The power consumed in an ac circuit is given by 

Pa = EvIv cos Φ where Φ is the phase difference between E and I

For an inductor Φ = 90°

∴ cos Φ = 0

∴ Pa = Ev x Iv x 0 =0

∴ An inductor consumes no power.
