Explanation:

The plants that grow in deserts or in very dry places where there is the scarcity of water are called XEROPHYTES. Examples- cactus, asparagus, agave, euphorbia and yucca.

Xerophytic adaptations are as FOLLOWS:

(1) Extensive ROOT systems which go deep into the soil in search of water.

(2) Roots have numerous root hairs to absorb water.

(3) Leaves are reduced, small, scale-like.

(4) Leaves are modified into spines as in cactus.

(5) Leaves are coated with CUTICLE to check loss of water.
