Solution :A variety of pollutants are emitted into the earth.s troposphere when fossil fuel burnt. TWO of the pollutants that are emitted hydrocarbons (unburnt fuels) and nitric oxide (NO).
When these pollutants builds up to sufficiently high levels, a chain reaction occurs from their interaction with sun light in which `NO_2`OXIDISES to `NO_2`. This `NO_2` in turns absorbs ENERGY from sunlight and breaks up into nitric oxide and free oxygen atom.
