1.

Briefly explain the effect of pressure on Le-Chatelier's principle.

Answer»

Solution :Number of GASEOUS moles decreases in the FORWARD REACTION. If the pressure is increased at EQUILIBRIUM, the system tries to reduce the pressure by reducing the number of moles in the vessel. Forward reaction is favoured.
If the pressure is decreased, the system tries to increase the pressure by increasing the number of moles. The BACKWARD reaction gets favoured at low pressure.
Note. If volume of the vessel is decreased, pressure increases. Forward reaction is favoured. If volume is increased, pressure decreases. Backward reaction is favoured.
