Answer»

At the end of the respiratory tree, sitsballoon likeair sacs known as the alveoli (Also known aspulmonaryalveolus).

Structureof the alveoli: The bronchioles branch out in thelungto form theseballoon likeair sacs.

Functions of the alveoli:

The main function of the alveoli is exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide to and from the blood stream.

The oxygen is taken into the blood stream from the alveoli while carbon (iv) oxide is taken from the blood stream into the alveoli.

The alveoli then, through the help of the action of respiratory muscles, expels the CO₂ gas from the lungs.
