Calculate mol fraction of each component of 400 ml 4mNaOH solution. If the density of solution is 1.25 gram/ml? |
|
Answer» Given, Volume of solution = 400 mL Molarity of NaOH = 4M Density of solution = 1.25 g/ml. Mass of solution = 400 x 1.25 = 500 g Number of moles of NaOH = 0.400 x 4 = 1.6 moles Weight of NaOH = 1.6 x 40 = 64 g ∴ Weight of water = 500 - 64 = 436 g Number of moles of water = \(\frac{436}{18} = 24.2\) ∴ Mole fraction of NaOH = \(\frac{1.6}{24.2 + 1.6} = 0.062\) ∴ Mole fraction of water = 1 - 0.062 = 0.94 |
