1.

Calculate the number of degrees of freedom of molecules of hydrogen in 1cc of hydrogen gas at NTP.

Answer»

Volume occupied by 1 gram mole of gas at NTP = 22400cc

∴ Number of molecules in 1cc of hydrogen

\(=\frac{6.023\times10^{23}}{22400}\)

= 2.688 × 1019

As each diatomic molecule has 5 degrees of freedom, hydrogen being diatomic also has 5 degrees of freedom.

∴ Total no. of degrees of freedom

= 5 × 2.688 × 1019

= 1.344 × 1020
