1.

Calculate the number of moles of hydrogen gas contained in 18L vessel at 27°C and a pressure of 70 cm of Hg. Given R = 0.082 L /atm/K/mol.

Answer»

We have given,

volume of hydrogen gas = 18 L

Temperature  = 300 k

Pressure of gas = 70 cm Hg

or 700 mm of Hg

or 0.921 atm

R = gas constant = 0.082 L/atm/K/mol

assuming hydrogen gas behaving like ideal gas--

so from ideal gas equation

PV = nRT

n = PV/RT

\(=\frac{0.921 atm\times18L}{0.082 L/atm/K/molx 300 k}\)

n = 0.674 mol
