Calculate the pressure in the following cases : i. On a surface with area 10 "cm"^2 if a force of 1200 N is acting normally on it. ii. On the same area (10 "cm"^2) if the normal force is increased to 2000 N.

Answer»

SOLUTION :FORCE (F)=1200 N , Area (A) = 10 `cm^2`
`=10 xx 10^(-4) m^2 = 10^(-3) m^2`
Pressure (P)=F/A= `1200N//10^(-3) m^2`
`=1.2xx10^6 N//m^2 =1.2xx10^6` Pa
ii. Force (F)=2000 N , Area (A) =10 `cm^2`
`=10 xx 10^(-4) m^2 = 10^(-3) m^2`
Pressure (P)=F/A=`2000 N//10^(-3) m^2`
`=2xx10^6 N//m^2 = 2xx10^6` Pa
Therefore, we NOTICE that on the same area, pressure increases as the force increases.
