Calculate the value of the resistance which must be connected to a 15Ω resistance to provide an effective resistance of 6Ω.

As the effective resistance is 6Ω less than 15Ω

∴ Resistance R must be connected in parallel with 15Ω

1/15 + 1/R = 1/6 = 1/R = 1/6 – 1/15 = 5—2/30 = 1/10

∴R = 10Ω
