Can the value of a component ofa vector be greater than the value of the vector itself ? Discuss thecaseof rectangular components in this context.

Answer»

Solution :By the LAW of parallelogram of VECTORS, TWO components of a vector form two adjacent SIDES of aparallelogram with the vector as the diagonal. Since both the adjacent sides of a parallelogram can be longer than the diagonal, the value of the components can be greater than that of the vector.
But the rectangular components ofa vector, being two adjacent sides of a rectangle, cannot be greater than the value of the vector, because the DIAGONALOF a rectangle is always longer than any of the sides.
