Check which of the following are solutions of the equation x − 2y = 4 and which are not:(i) ( √2 , 4√2 )(ii) ( 1, 1) |
|
Answer» (i) ( √2 , 4√2 ) Putting x = √2 and y = 4√2 in the L.H.S of the given equation, x - 2y = √2 - 2(4√2) = √2 - 8√2 = -7√2 ≠ 4 L.H.S ≠ R.H.S Therefore,(√2, 4√2) is not a solution of this equation. (ii) (1, 1) Putting x = 1 and y = 1 in the L.H.S of the given equation, x − 2y = 1 − 2(1) = 1 − 2 = − 1 ≠ 4 L.H.S ≠ R.H.S Therefore, (1, 1) is not a solution of this equation. |
