Chlorine and Bromine have approximately same shape and neither is polar.a) Upon cooling, both clorine and Bromine forms solids, why?b) At 25°c, chlorine is a gas where as bromine is liquid.why?

Answer»

CHLORINE, Cl2, is a gas at room temperature, but bromine, Br2, is a LIQUID. ... Basically the Br2 molecule is heavier than the Cl2 molecule. So the dispersion forces (LONDON forces) are strong ENOUGH in Br2 to keep it in the liquid state.
