The theme of the novel ‘Inside the Haveli’ is that we should not blindly follow the outdated traditions and customs. These old traditions are fatal to the life of an individual and nation. Money spent on outdated customs is unwise. There are people who borrow money simply to maintain these customs and traditions. Such a stupid habit makes them poor and they die in debt. Man has a fully developed mind. He can reason out whether a certain custom is useful or harmful to him. The sooner one gets rid of harmful customs, the better it is for him and his children.

‘इनसाईड द हवेली’ उपन्यास की कथा वस्तु है कि हमें आँखें मूंद कर अनुपयोगी प्रथाओं और रीति रिवाजों को नहीं मानना चाहिये। ये पुरानी प्रथाएं व्यक्ति और राष्ट्र दोनों के लिए घातक हैं। अनुपयोगी प्रथाओं को बनाये रखने के लिये खर्च किया पैसा बुद्धिहीनता की बात है। ऐसे भी लोग हैं जो परम्पराओं और रीति रिवाजों को निभाने के लिये कर्ज लेते हैं। इस तरह की मूर्खतापूर्ण आदत उन्हें निर्धन बनाती है और वे ऋण में ही मर जाते हैं। आदमी के पास पूरी तरह विकसित दिमाग है। वह तर्क से पता लगा सकता है कि एक अमुक रीति-रिवाज उसके लिये लाभप्रद है या हानिकारक है। जितनी जल्दी कोई भी व्यक्ति हानिकारक रीति रिवाजों से छुटकारा पा जाता है यह उसके और उसके बच्चों के लिये उतना ही अच्छा है।
